Can already tell Izturis is the new whipping boy, it always has to be somebody.

When you are a garbage ball player batting 2nd in the lineup..that is what usually happens.

Not Ceasar's fault. He sucks with the bat..blame the GM for getting him.

Remember his glove is like driving in RBI's and is like a guy whos batting .350

Im up for resigning Pierre.. the guy is red hot..

I'm really hesitant with that. Yes, Pie could use some more time in AAA and it'd look bad for Hendry to trade away three good prospects for a one year rental that added up to nothing. When he's locked in, he's a good player to have on the team.

At the same time, there are a bunch of CFs who will be FAs and would likely be upgrades over Pierre. Also, since Pierre's so reliant on his batting average to get on base and lacks power, his slumps look really, really ugly. His low BB rates really hurt him during those times.

I'm curious to see how he finishes the season and what kind of interest he gets from other teams. If he can be re-signed for a reasonable price, I'd be fine with it.

I do not come to bury Cesar, but to praise him.

Why can nobody just flat out say he is a great defensive SS? It always has to be qualified or with some flip remark about his hitting skills.

If he makes a good play, the jokes start coming about his bat.

He is a great defensive SS. The jokes about his glove driving in runs came from a quote from someone (hendry?) right after the trade.

I think the guy is a great SS..great range and a cannon arm

He is a #8 hitter.

If you have a team that is solid offensively you can slot him in down there in the lineup and and you are good to go.

The problem is being under the dellusion that this guy is a bonafied #2 hitter

base upon a good 2 months he had in 2005.

You do realize that Neifi was a quantifiably better defensive SS, right?

See comment #44 here.

And Cesar's career offensive numbers are slightly worse than Neifi's.

So as NSBB celebrates the Neifi trade, we'll go into 2007 with a higher-paid Neifi starting at SS.

Eh, in all fairness, Neifi's numbers were considerably skewed by his time in Colorado and Izturis was hurt playing in Dodger Stadium. Neifi's career OPS+ is 65, Izturis' is 69.

Neither is something to be especially proud of, but hey.

He's still just the 18th best centerfielder despite his recent hot streak.

man...If we could get DeJesus...that would be sweet.

And maybe turn and trade DeJesus to another team for another HOFer 2B, perhaps?

I think the "celebration" of the Neifi trade borders on ridiculous.

I think Izturis can be an asset. If there is one position that a good defensive player is a necessity it is SS. He can become an even bigger asset if this team is improved upon during the offseason. He's not going to be a great offesnive player, but I do think he is /can be better than many give him credit for. His value is in his defensive ability, which with a stronger team around him will be much needed.
