Hey guys - When the Marlins come to Los Angeles next week, Joe Girardi (a Northwestern grad) is gonna have breakfast with a bunch of other Northwestern grads (myself included). The whole thing has been organized through the Northwestern Alumni Association, or something like that. Anyway, I'm going, and was wondering if any of you had any questions you'd like me to ask him.

I'm sure it's a pretty casual thing, though, and he won't want to be hounded as if I were the press, so I'm sure badgering him about whether he's coming to Chicago or not is a bad idea. But if you guys have questions you want asked, I'll do my best to ask them (I don't know how many people will be there, so might not be easy to get too many questions in). Let me know. The breakfast is Tuesday, August 15, I think.

I think asking him a question related to how he manages a game could prove very revealing. Something along the lines of OBP vs. speed at the top of the lineup or tools v. stats as was mentioned above.

Tell him "thank you" for representing the Cubs and all of baseball when he had to announce to the Wrigley crowd that the game between the Cubs and Card's was cancel due to the sudden death of Card's pitcher Darryl Kile.

At that moment I wanted Joe Girardi to be involved in someway with the Cubs.

He's got brass'uns

How does my mom (a Northwestern alum) get hooked up with this?

I keep telling her to be more active in her Alumni Association.

It's listed on their website under events.

Thanks.

I might be going now thanks to my mom or her Medill grad co-workers, just have to get out of work. :)

If you're coming, let me know. That'd be great - we could have more than one person to ask these questions.

Let's not forget that Joe also represented a nation of baseball fans when the Cubs returned to Wrigley post 9/11 and adressed the crowd.

Just ask him what thoughts go into assembling the lineup. That *should* tell you what you need to know about him without trying to pry too much.

Let's see. Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla are both rookies and they bat 1/2 in the line up. Ramirez' OBP has slipped a bit to .337. Uggla's at .348.

Cubs 1/2 is .323/.289

That's OBP, not AVG. I'll take Girardi all day long.

Here's what the Cubs have gotten in OBP out of the 2 spot so far this year.

Walker (133 ab)- .320

Cedeno (102 ab)- .260

Perez (74 ab)- .286

Womack (41 ab)- .318

Hairston Jr. (27 ab)- .185

Izturis (23 ab)- .320

Pierre (13 ab)- .154

Bynum (13 ab)- .154

Murton (12 ab)- .308

Theriot (10 ab)- .455

I'm not so sure Girardi wouldn't take that crappy veteran option over the kids if he had the option in the first place.

I'd ask about what what stats they use to evaluate their especially young players and what they use to project them, what stats they favor more than others, what can and can't be taught at the big league level, etc. I'd also ask if the Cubs can be the first trade partner for Cabrera as a payback for the Pierre trade.

I didn't know that it's going to be at the Huntington, that's just a few minutes away from me. I'll PM you before Tuesday.

Yes, I vote for this question. It should be interesting.

By the way, thanks for asking our input.

Rock on.

I've never been there - is it nice?

No prob. I'm sure everyone on this board can come up with better things to ask than just me alone.

Aack, you're in for a treat. The library is great, the gardens are out of this world (although not as pleasant when it's hot).

Ask him if it's true what they say about Northwestern girls.

There has to be something funny I can say in response to this. But I can't think of anything. Well, not anything I can say on this board.

So what is it that you think they say about Northwestern girls?

And be careful with your response, Voice of Reason. My mom is an NU alum...

probably pushing it too much, but I'd like to know if there is truth to the rumor that he can get out of Fla if offered a job with the Cubs.
