so gooz only pitched one inning last night in case the cubs needed to bring him up soon...of course by pitching that one inning, he's probably not available until maybe saturday. and of course, you have the whole thing about how they couldn't get him to chicago by thursday even though he was in des moines on wednesday. well played, cubs, well played.

Is that for sure?

that's what len said.

How stupid can they get?

Wait until tomorrow and see.

Bob thinks DLee and Blanco saw something Marmol was doing, like tipping his pitches, back in the 2nd inning. The he just had like a 5 pitch 3rd inning. What is Rothschild doing?

I don't even want to think about that.

good grief, could marmol ever use another full year in the minors.

i've been saying for a while that he's due for a disaster start, so this isn't really a surprise.

Kid was rushed, he has control problems (not a shocker since he converted from catcher in 2003).

Now they're rushing Mateo.

Wasn't the point of opening up the rotation slot to pitch the rooks? Or was it just to pitch Guzman?

Williams to replace Marmol?

heh, dlee's doing more work with marmol than rothschild is.

That's probably a good thing.

for those not watching, they showed lee and blanco talking with marmol before the third (a 1, 2, 3 inning). apparently whatever rothschild said to marmol during their multiple conversations the first two innings didn't help as much as lee and blanco's advice.

Sitting back and enjoying his fat paycheck. If you don't know by now, people on this team can do whatever they want without having to worry about losing their jobs. See: Dusty, Sarge, Clines, Neifi, Rusch, Rothschild, etc.

the Cubs don't know about Orbitz.

The Cubs don't know about a LOT of things.

I certainly think some of the kids are more ready (Guzman, Ryu, Hill who will now have a spot when Marshall returns, even Williams) for the big leagues than some of the others (Mateo, Marmol, Gallagher, etc.).

I'd rather play the kids who are ready to graduate to the bigs first and let the ones who could still use some time down on the farm get that.

At this point, I wouldn't replace Marmol. I'd keep him in the rotation the rest of the season.

How do Cubs consistently look this bad against mediocre crap like Arizona, and the whole NL West? I know the Cubs are bad but, seriously Arizona' not much better...

What tips? That the ball would not be near the strike zone; so don't swing?

What has Guzman, Ryu, and Hill shown, besides one good start by Hill the last time out, that makes them more ready? You might as well keep Marmol in there for the remainder of the year. What do you have to lose?

How come when I think of Larry Rothschild I keep thinking of that Office Space scene where the Bob's ask that guy "What exactly do you do here?" and the guy reponds, "I'm a people person! I deal with people! Can't you see that??"

Great patience out of the Cubs today-every Cub hitter so far has looked at the first pitch, and only 3 Cubs swung at the second pitch-resulting in one foul ball, one out, and the Pierre double.

That's always the ideal plan. Obviously you want to pace someone at the exactly correct pace for their development. But I'm not at all surprised that the organization may have somewhat different reads on who is ready for what than we do, and I suspect that Mateo won't be the only surprising debut this season.

I also suspect there's more to the Guz story, even if it involves a huge lack of communication between the big league club and Iowa.

At this point, I wouldn't replace Marmol. I'd keep him in the rotation the rest of the season.

I wish I had more confidence in LR working with him, since Marmol does seem to my untrained eye to change his delivery from pitch to pitch sometimes.

They're more accomplished at AAA than Mateo and Marmol were at AA, they're further along. I'd rather see how the guys who are more ready for the big leagues fair now.

And if you noticed the rest of my post, I said now there's no point in sending Marmol back to the minors.

66 pitches total first 2 innings.

13 pitches total next 2 innings?

That's a bit of a turn around...did the Cubs start batting for Arizona?

No, Marmol talked to Blanco and Lee.

How many ball 4's can Neifi swing at?

Lol..at least the 2nd one was right down the middle there. 79 pitches for Marmol, and 73 pitches for Cruz now. Amazing.
