Wow that lineup if they land Soriano is just filthy, one of the most sickest ever... They wil lwin the series again no doubt, even if theyre pitching sucks, theyll still be putting up 10 runs a game with that lineup.. I am disgusted and embarrased to be a Cubs fan...The GM across town is the real deal always looking for superstars while our GM is a stubborn piece of crap looking for garbage washed up players that wont take us anywhere...How can hendry tolerate this... the Sox own the city and that is all... Screw this whole damn Cubs franchise

Well don't forget Kenny actually has talent to trade. We don't.

And who's fault is that?

Gee, I don't know! Start with MacPhail and work your way on down.

I'm really generalizing here, and I apologize for that ahead of time, but when there were rumors of the Cubs being interested in Soriano last year, many here hated it and said it was a typical Jim Hendry move for a tools guy with terrible plate discipline, etc.

Now the Sox are maybe getting him (and I like the move for them if they do), and many are saying how stupid the Cubs are for not doing something like this.

It seems like many of us want it both ways. We want to complain when the Cubs are rumored to like someone and say how stupid they are for doing so, then complain when some other teams gets the exact same guy and say the Cubs are stupid for not getting him.

I've always been on the Soriano bandwagon. I really wish the Cubs could sign him in Free Agency, but I don't think it's that likely anymore. I'm pretty sure Williams is going to do everything he can to keep Soriano on the south-side for years to come.

Are they really going to move Podsednik to CF? Because that would be an unmitigated disaster.

I agree! A outfield of Soriana and Pod? No...

Easily explained by the fact that Soriano is completely destroying his numbers from the past few years.

edit: his ops is 81 points better than his career best and 121 points better than his average (which he was below the previous two years)

I was off the Soriano bandwagon last year because I could see that our glaring problem was OBP and defense. Soriano provided neither. The other reason I was off of it beacuse I thought we could find a bigger name and/or a better fit. We got Matt Lawton.

I agree I was on the anti-soriano bandwagon but you can't deny the numbers he's putting up this year...

more soriano numbers: his OBP this season is better than anyone on the cubs except Barrett and Lee. His OBP last season would be 10th on the team (includes nevin and mabry).

soriano's putting up a .361 OBP this year.

Man I hope they get Soriano and he reverts back to the low-.800s OPS guy he was for the last 2 years he was in the AL. I just don't like trading for a guy who is having a career year that coincides with his contract year.

Yeah, but does he walk?

I have never supported the idea of getting Soriano. I admit that he's been somewhat productive. The problem is that the hype surrounding him has grossly outweighed his real value. He is simply not a $10+ million player. And since the Cubs' biggest need has been OBP for several years now, Soriano would not be the right guy for this team. That's not to say he couldn't help, I just never thought he would help enough to justify the cost.

Note: I am not sitting here saying Jim is an idiot for not getting Soriano. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if Hendry still got him, since he's such a prototypical Hendry target (hyper-aggressive athlete).

It's his contract year, his first year in the NL, and his next highest OBP for a season is .338. He may be due for a little regression here (or he's peaking at 30).

Let's face it in this current market he's a 10 million dollar a year ball player...

10 more than each of the last 2 full seasons. 43 BBs in 399 ABs. About 70 points difference b/t AVG and OBP.

Somewhat productive? Um, his OPS is the 7th best in the league. I'm pretty sure that's more than "somewhat productive."

It's amazing how much easier it is to walk when you are hitting HR's left and right and are surrounded by Vidro and Johnson rather then Teixiera and Young

He's now a 30-year-old corner OF with a career .835 OPS. He's peaking in his contract season, but his last two years were .807 and .821. He's not a $10m player.

If you guys ever want to see the Cubs win a world series in your lifetime, your gonna need superstars on your team like Soriano, not a bunch of prospects or guys like Cedeno and Matt Murton

I'd take players that know how to play the game of baseball...
