Why is Hill still in Iowa?

Because the Cubs are still in the playoff race, and three rookies in the rotation would negatively affect Dusty's win %.

Hill allowed 2 runs in the 6th raising his ERA up to 1.89. Demote him Hendry.

Daytona won game 2 of the doubleheader, 7-4. Norton started and pitched an inning and 2/3's allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 3 BB's, and struck out 1. Johnson pitched an inning and 1/3 allowing 2 hits, 3 runs, 3 BB's, and struck out 2. Hunton picked up the win as he went 2 and 2/3's allowing just 1 hit, 1 walk, no runs, and struck out 2. Schappert picked up his 6th save as he went an inning and a third, only allowing one hit. Harvey had a good 2nd game, continuing from his great 1st game, as he went 2/3 with a solo homer and 2 runs scored. Matt Craig was 2/3 with a 2 run homer and 2 runs scored. Alan Rick was 2/3 with 1 HR, 3 RBI's, a double, and a run scored. Simokaitis doubled and Ciaramella doubled as well.

West Tenn down 4-2 after 7.

Pie and Harvey have both really turned it on lately. Hopefully they can continue that throughout the 2nd half and make us forget about the 1st half of the season.

hill gives up a homer in the 8th to tie it. i can't decide whether he should be demoted, released, or killed.

8 ip, 7 h, 3 er, 1 bb, 14 k's

only 100 pitches, which is pretty damn impressive.

edit: hill being ph for.

Any day you go 4/7 with 2 HRs, 4R scored & 8 rbis is a good day, and I hope he enjoys it.

When Harvey hits, he's a joy to behold. Too bad he hasn't been able to stay locked in consistently ... yet. I'm with others here who are interested in seeing him tried out as a pitcher if he doesn't come around on the hitting front, but I wonder how much a hot hitting streak will set back any plans to do so.

Don't look now, but today's 2-HR day puts Harvey in the hunt for the league leadership in HRs, considering that many of the FSL leaders have been promoted to AA (so the gap isn't as large as it would seem).

Walrond strikes out Ashby swinging on a 3-2 pitch with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th. They go to the 12th.

Iowa to the 16th.

Only bench player left for Iowa is Coats. Iowa has Aardsma, Emanuel, Williams, and Wuertz in the pen still, so they are in good shape compared to Albuqerque who I believe is on their final reliever.

Jeebers, Pie is 0 for 7. No K's though. Fontenot is 2 for 7.

Boy, I know us Cubs fans are considered real optimists, but I'm even surprised we can find the silver lining in an 0-7 (and now 0-8) performance.

Iowa FINALLY wins, 5-4 in 17, although it did get a bit close in the bottom of the 17th. Eric Reed led off the inning with a leadoff double off of Rapada. Aardsma then came in and promptly gave up an RBI single. The next batter singled on a line drive to Felix. He got a bit greedy and was thrown out by Pie for the first out of the inning. The runner at 1st did move up to 3rd however. Aardsma left the tying run at 3rd though by striking out the next 2 batters to end the game.

I realize that its a matter of time on Hill, and that he is very likely to join the team within two weeks time. I believe Maddux will be traded, but maybe not until the deadline. But with Prior on the DL until close to the deadline, I don't see why Hill wasn't brought up instead of Theriot.

The only reason I can possibly think of to have Rusch in the rotation right now is if he starts pitching well and showcases himself for a trade before the deadline. But how likely is that. Not very.

Perhaps the biggest reason why Hill isn't in the majors right now is that Rothschild and Baker don't like his mental makeup and don't trust him. If they are vetoing a move to bring Hill up, I say fire 'em. Rich Hill clearly belongs in the majors. If he has a mental block around pitching at the big league level, the best thing for him is an extended period of uninterrupted time at the big league level to work through it.

After Zambrano and Prior, Hill may be the Cubs best starter, but we won't know for sure unless he is brought up. Keeping him at AAA can't get any more pointless than it is right now.

Don't look now, but here comes Tyler Colvin.

Over his last 4 games, he is batting .400 (6-for-15), with 4 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 homer and 6 batted in.

Let's see if he can keep it up. If so, perhaps he follows Samardzjia to Peoria in a couple of weeks.
