hill starts for the PCL in the AAA all-star game, which is tonight. i believe it's on espn/espn2 too.

Hill is 6-1 with a 1.81 ERA in 13 starts for Iowa, and he is also tied for second in the league with 107 strikeouts. Tacoma starter Francisco Cruceta leads the PCL in strikeouts with 117, but he has logged 8.2 more innings that Hill. Opposing hitters are batting just .183 against Hill, and he has walked 19 batters in 84.2 innings of work.

also...

Hill will be the Pacific Coast League starting pitcher in the all-star game, but Ligtenberg will not be able to attend due to prior commitments.

Cool! I can actually watch him! I'm curious to see him pitch after watching him fail so bad in the bigs...

Probable Starters:

West Tenn: ??

Daytona: LHP Carlos Perez (1-5, 5.34 ERA, 64 IP, 47/37, 1.86 WHIP)

Peoria: RHP Todd Blackford (8-2, 3.68 ERA, 95.1 IP, 42/41, 1.38 WHIP)

Boise: RHP Jeff Samardzija (0-1, 3.00 ERA, 9 IP, 6/2, 4 HBP, 1.22 WHIP)

Mesa: RHP Julio Castillo (0-2, 11.47 ERA, 9.2 IP, 3/7, 2.58 WHIP)*

* All Mesa starters that I list should be taken with a grain of salt since they shuffle their starters and relievers back and forth so much.

It's on ESPN2. ESPN is televising the WNBA All-Star Game.

I doubt it. With an off-day tomorrow, the Cubs could set up their rotation in any order they want to, so next Tuesday is the earliest date they'd need the fifth starter. Furthermore, there wouldn't be a need to bring up a starter unless both Prior and Zambrano are unable to make their next start.

Any chance Hill will be pulled from the game due to Zambrano's injury?

Sounds like Z is cleared to go on Friday.

Mesa getting blown away in the 8th, 8-1. All 8 Angels runs came in the 6th, after Parker was gone with 5 strong innings. Castillo gave up 6 ER and got one out in the 6th, Holdzkom got the final 2 outs of the inning but gave up 2 unearned runs.

Mesa got their run in the 2nd thanks to a Luther Murphy walk, a wild pitch and a Marwin Gonzalez RBI single.

Drew Rundle is 0 for 3 with 3 strikeouts and now 1/13 in his brief professional career (.077/.333/.077, 4 BBs/10 Ks).

OurSportsCentral.com[/url]"]PEORIA, IL-The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that they have added infielder Ryan Lilly from Mesa in the Arizona League. The 22 year-old infielder takes the roster spot of shortstop Dylan Johnston, who has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with a high ankle sprain, retroactive to Monday.

Dylan will be at least two weeks. He is in a walking cast now...then comes crutches...then putting full weight on it, then getting into game shape and then playing...

it's currrently raining in Peoria. And muggy and gross outside. I might have to go home and listen to Nate on the radio tonight, if we play at all.

How did Hill look tonight? I forgot what time it was on it and came home after Hill's night was done. I see he had decent velocity, but how was his movement and control?

argh...of all the people you'd think wouldn't miss the start of this game...stupid eastern standard time.

good to see he pitched well, though.

man, Jason DuBois really looks awful :(

How did he get into the AAA ASG?  Is it as much a joke as the major league version?

edit: yeah, whoops, forgot about the rule here for a second

The loss for the Chiefs was depressing this evening. They looked as bad as I've seen all season. Not quite sure how Yusef Carter got player of the game - as his defense was *horrible* in center tonight. There were a couple of balls he clearly should have caught and one that should have been a single or double instead of a triple. He seems much more comfortable in right.

Hendry and Gary Hughes were there tonight. They were sitting 3 rows in front of me or so. At first I thought "wow, that guy looks like Jim Hendry" then did a double take. I was surprised at how sloppy he looked. Granted he was in Peoria, but he was in a button down shirt that hadn't been ironed in a while (with the top 3 buttons of the shirt undone :pukel: ) If anyone sees him try and leave Chicago again, stop him. We don't want his help down here. He obviously has bad mojo.

Hill and Soto were basically the highlights for the PCL tonight (sad that there are so few hits that a walk is an offensive highlight). The rest of the team looked putrid, losing 6-0.
