DeJesus. David DeJesus

Thinking out loud here, with Dayton Moore looking to get a team to his liking, would he entertain a hefty package for his CF? Would it be worth it for us to try to woo him away?

Would Marshall, Jones, Pie, and Guzman interest a guy like Moore, who falls more along the tools side of the spectrum? Is it worth it for us to give that package for DeJesus?

That is an awful package for DeJesus. His season prior to this one are mediocre at best.

Good OBP, though, albeit in limited AB's.

He was basically tied with Damon for 6th in CF OPS, he's in a similar spot this year with improved numbers. He hits a bunch of line drives and has good speed so he can maintain a high average, and he's improved his walks while keeping the same K rate and power production. He's also locked into a contract until free agency, which is a positive if acquired but is a hindrance to it happening.

I don't really follow the Royals, but have heard that DeJesus possibly should have been the guy to go to the All Star game. So basically I know nothing about him.

Question in regards to this.........

If the Cubs could get this done and it included Pie, would this be the right deal? There would be a lot of teams interested in Pie. In your opinion, would DeJesus be the best option out there as opposed to another CF for Pie?

I'm very big on DeJesus and would love to see him leading off and playing CF for the Cubs for the next 10-15 years, but I don't see it happening. I wouldn't mind giving up a package of Marshall, Dopirak, and another decent prospect but I dont know about giving up Pie. I would MAYBE consider doing Pie for DeJesus straight up, because I don't have all that much confidence in the Cubs developing Pie into the player he can potentially be.

DeJesus makes Pie expendable. While Pie has the potential to hit for enough power to be a corner OF, we can only hope he will be able to be what DeJesus is now. DeJesus is a relatively inexpensive cornerstone to the Royals rebuilding effort, Pie plus more would definitely be necessary to get him, unless Dayton really really likes Shane Costa.

Trust me, I like DeJesus a lot but I think Pie alone could/should get him. Pie's ceiling is MUCH higher than DeJesus's.

No. I understand we want guys who get on base, and dejesus is a nice little player, but he's not worth three of our top young players. We don't have much left to trade after that. And what little we do have (Ryu, marmol, Hill) we might need to shore up our rotation.

I was going to rip your idea up to shreads, but I went and look at his numbers this yrs and wowsa  ,he would be the Cubs top hitter, if you can believe that.

With that said, I still wouldn't offer up ALL THREE of Marshall/Guzman/Pie. I would offer up two of the three, and maybe a lower tier prospect like a Montanez or a Wells, in exchange for DeJesus and a A ball prospect.

The only thing I don't like about your idea TT is including both Marshall and Guzman. I have no problem doing it for Guzman OR Marshall, Pie and Jones. I also wouldn't oppose adding another prospect to the deal as well. I just don't like the idea (and don't really think it's necessary) to include Marshall and Guzman.

I really think people are giving Pie a little too much credit if they're banking on him to be as good as or better then DeJesus is. He might be, but it's pretty freaking far from a lock at this point.

I'm not feeling DeJesus. What's so special about him that he would get that kind of package offered for him? I agree with the Carl Crawford comparison. I think DeJesus is and will always be a poor man's Carl Crawford, with more OB ability and less power and speed.

He does have great OB ability, but I still see him more as a Lofton type player in his prime.

a CFer who can put up a +.800 OPS in his sleep is definitely worth a lot, and the royals know it.

i'd do pie and marshall and see if that would get it done.

Why would the Royals want to pick up Jones' contract?

Because as of now Jones is producing pretty well for the contract. Sanders is their current RF who'll be gone after the year, and they don't really have anyone coming through that would be able to fill that role either. And again, Moore falls on the tools side of the spectrum so he may value Jones a little more than we think. Or maybe not.

On the proposal for DeJesus, I made it my intention that I'd rather overshoot for the price than undersell it. Didn't put a ton of research into it, but thought it would be a decent starting point for discussion. If Pie and Marshall does it, sign me up.

There's hardly anything wrong with that...

Lofton's prime:

1992 - WARP 7.2

1993 - WARP 7.0

1994 - WARP 7.0

For comparison, let's take a look at some Indians' hitters from last year.

Travis Hafner - WARP 7.2

Victor Martinez - WARP 7.2

Grady Sizemore - WARP 7.0

I don't know about you, but I'd kill for any of those three.

They aren't gonna trade DeJesus. All I see around town are his shirts and jerseys. He is their franchise player. I would rather have him then Carl Crawford. You know how they have been playing real well lately? That's mainly because DeJesus came back from the DL.

Teahen (.356/.505 the last 30 days) hasn't been that bad either.

Yeah the trip to Omaha really did wonders for him so far. Maybe that is what Ronny needs right now.
