I'd do it as long as the Yankees are picking up a significant amount of salary, and we're not giving up alot in terms of prospects.

I don't like it. Aram plays well enough when he isn't the big bat on the team. Put Carlos Lee in LF next year, along with DLee, and Aram will do just fine.

I guess it should be mentioned here that the article states that those guys would be the two centerpieces. It wouldn't be Aram for ARod straight up.

I have my doubts about it being true, but IF it were I'd do it every day and three times on Sunday (homage to Ernie Banks :D ). I really like Aram and think he'll have a big second half with Lee back. However, if you have a chance to acquire arguably the best player in the game, you do it.

The yankees are only paying 15 a year of his 25 mill the other ten is paid by Texas.

I was looking over his contract details over at Cot's, and this is really interesting; after this year his salary goes up to $27mil/ year and he may opt out after 2007 unless he gets an $8M/year raise or $1M more than MLB’s highest-paid player. That is rather crazy, maybe that's why they Yankees would even consider trading him.

He will not opt out he can't a better contract than he has now.

If he gets traded to the Cubs he'd opt out. He's already made $200m and he still doesn't have a ring. He'd opt out & take less to play for a contender.

Who are the big name free agents for next season?

Nobody who would garner more money than what ARod currently makes. So at least for one season that element of the contract couldn't even be utilized.

And I don't think anyone will be reaching his contract amount in the next few years. Who would even be the next big free agent to grab that type of money?

Exactly there is no reason for him to opt out.

According to that same article (in the comments section), the Yankees are paying him $17 million per year, which would (I assume) be taken over by the Cubs.

Aramis+Jones+Guzman+Marshall+Williamson for Arod at $13M a year and filler

WAAAAY TOO MUCH FOR AROD.

I can imagine a Aramis, Jones, Williamson and Hill trade for A-Rod

I might consider that one.

Aramis has shown he's the type of hitter who would thrive in a lineup like the Yankees have, even with the injuries. You surround him with other big bats, and I mean BIG bats, and he slams the ball until it cries. Jacque is having a great year and given his history, I think he'd use the shorter porch in NYC to his advantage. Cap them off with a reliever or two and I think this could and should be done, if there's any truth to it.
