Guillen mad at Mariotti

Presumably he's upset at Mariotti over the article calling for Dusty's firing. Maybe Dusty should've performed better Ozzie??

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/cs-0606210202jun21,1,4401278.story?coll=cs-home-headlines

"He's not going to run me out of town," Guillen said. "He can kiss my ass. He'll lose his job before I lose mine. I guarantee that . . .

"I'll leave this [bleeping] town when I want to leave this town, maybe next week. Maybe 20 [bleeping] years, but I'm going to be here a little while.

"Now he wants to get Dusty out of there and put in some [bleeping] guy from the radio booth (actually television analyst and former manager Bob Brenly)."

Guillen went on to call Mariotti a derogatory name for a homosexual and "a stupid idiot."

The guy can't talk without swearing. Someone should let him know how [expletive] he sounds.

But who? His GM is too busy swearing at everybody Ozzie's not swearing at.

LOL! I agree! Winning makes everything seem alright. Eventually players aren't going to want to come play for Ozzie...

I was just listening to Mariotti on the Score earlier, and I actually agreed with everything he had to say about the situation.

He's pissed at Ozzie for making such childish insults, mad at the White Sox PR guys for not keeping an eye on Ozzie and knowing when to not let him talk or at least apologize for him, and mad at the Sun-Times for not supporting him in this.

Granted he is, in my opinion, the worst writer in the city, he doesn't deserve to be treated like that.

Ozzie will hang on as long as he's winning. When things go south, and they will, he'll lose his job quickly, and probably will expedite the process by spewing profanities at whoever he deems responsible for his team's demise.

I agree. Winning has made Williams a genius and Guillen a Hall of Fame manager. The Sox should be favorites to win their division, league, and World Series when you look at their whole team (including pitching). They come in 2nd and miss the Wild Card and Ozzie starts looking like the profanity-laced big mouth that he is. If he wasn't coming off a championship, I wonder if the Sox or the league would fine or suspend him for some of his actions and comments.

Whatever. Mariotti is given free reign to spill his bile not only through the Sun Times but also on Around the Horn. Is swearing about Mariotti any more childish than constantly referring to Dusty as the Rev. Johnnie B. Baker or the litany of childish pet names he's come up with with any variety of sports personalities through the years? Lest we forget, before last year's World Series, Jerry Reinsdorf was one of his favorite targets for ridicule and childish taunts.

I mean seriously. There's a saying about people in glass houses.

Still doesn't justify using sexual slurs against another person.

Yes, it is more childish.

If Guillen wants to give Mariotti a pet name........ more power to him. But that pet name can't be littered with expletives, and end with "[expletive]".

There is no situation in an exchange of words where resorting to hateful bigoted words is necessary. He was absolutely out of line, and I've lost all respect for him.

I agree with you here.

Its just a p***ing match between a self-promoter [Mariotti] and a guy [Guillen] who doesn't know when to shut up and believes he has a lifetime free pass b/c he has a WS ring.

You're all absolutely right about the derogatory sexual slurs. I'm not debating that at all. They have no place anywhere.

But you know what? Someone decides to badmouth me in the newspaper, I'm going to use every swear word I can find. It may not be professional in the sports sense, but attacks upon a person don't have to be professional.

Both of them just need to keep their traps shut if nothing productive is going to come out of them.

It wouldn't be appropriate if you said what Ozzie said, either. Just because it's the same way that you would handle the situation doesn't mean it's the right way.

He's an idiot for saying what he said....... and it's am embarrassment to himself and his team. It's pretty much a black & white issue.

Yes it is, considering Dusty's name is Johnnie B. Baker Jr.

But is he a Reverend?

I created the Church of Dusty and made him a Reverend.
