What is this Chad Fox story? I'm not getting the reference.

Last year, Fox was coming back from injury and wasn't able to pitch several days in a row. That fact was lost on Dusty, who threw him 3 times in 4 days(64 total pitches) and he threw his arm out for good on that last outing.

I believe his last outing was something like 30+ pitches.

Everyone knew that he was an injury waiting to happen and that he only had so many bullets left in him. Dusty apparently never got the memo.

29 pitches the day after he threw 20.

I'm not defending Dusty or anything, but Fox did say he told Dusty he could go and pitch that night he blew his elbow for good.

Of course he did, everyone tells the manager they can keep going.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the Cubs were winning 10-3 in the 9th when Fox came into that game.

There is no doubt that Z will flame out in the next 3-5 years if Dusty doesn't knock this crap off.

I have some doubt, because part of me believes that Zambrano is a god/superhero/robot and the only thing that can break him is his nemesis, the instant messenger.

Which is, coincidentally, my nemesis as well.

2006 Pitcher abuse point leader update:

1. Carlos Zambrano

2. Jason Schmidt

3. Curt Schilling

4. John Smoltz

5. Barry Zito

I'd take all five of those guys on my staff any day, and twice on Sunday, and I would be very happy.

IMO, Schmidt got screwed out of the CYA a couple of years ago.

The year you're thinking of was 2003, and Mark Prior was the one screwed out of the Cy Young.

18-6, 211 IP, TWO FORTY THREE earned run average, 1.10 WHIP, .233 BAA

Schmidt had a 1.08 WHIP and a .202 BAA, but his ERA at 3.20 was nearly a full point higher than Mark's. The only reason Mark didn't get the award was that he didn't get 20 wins, giving the voters an excuse to give it to a reliever. (Granted, Gagne had the save streak, but saves are such an arbitrary stat that Prior should've gotten the benefit of the doubt in that case)

We must remember, what the rest of us call "abuse," Carlos only looks upon as a gentle spring shower whilst prancing through a field of tulips.

Z has an arm like Clemens, and I don't think he'll have the surgery Clemens had early on. Z is a very tough competitor and has the body and arm strength to back it up.

You're looking at the wrong year. In 2004, Schmidt had a 3.20 ERA In 2003, Schmidt had a 2.34 ERA. Schmidt had 17 wins in 2003.

Oh. Right. Yahoo has your last 3 seasons...Prior hasn't pitched, Schmidt has. Mayhaps Schmidt did deserve it although my biased vote would've still gone to Prior.

I think I saw Prior doing the worm at a bar Saturday night, does that count :D ?

Prior and Rodman? Not that there is anything wrong with that.

No he won't, for Z is Superman. If the Cubs can keep him away from kryptonite (aka his computer), keep him hydrated, and teach him how to slide Carlos is unstoppable.

I heard he can leap bulidings in a single bound.

My complaint with Z and pitch counts is that these games aren't going to help the Cubs win the WS. Keep Z on a strict pitch count so when games matter again (hopefully) in a couple of years he's still able to pitch well. Why risk his arm on a couple of June games for a team 10+ games under .500

I think the thread question has been answered...

“I was kind of like feeling my arm ‘heavy,’" Zambrano said. “That’s why I was throwing so many (off-speed) pitches today. I was using my split and my slider a lot. But I feel good. That happens in some part of the season. You have to keep working in between my starts.”

“I’m sure the workload … it obviously would have an effect,” Rothschild said. “I don’t know that there’s any way around it. The way he’s throwing the ball, and the game in Houston, he took a no-hitter deep into the game, and he’s maintained his stuff pretty much throughout and been good in between. I don’t know that it’s been excessive.”

I wouldn't worry about Z. I know we see Prior and Wood go on the DL a lot, and deadarm probably would be something that would put one of them on the DL, but Z will fight through it, even pitching well as he does. He always has.
