good finish by drogba. that'll give them a boost- very sluggish before that goal. great build-up though.

"a game that has been controlled by argentina has now turned 360 degrees!"

... really?

England looked really pedestrian, although Crouch must have killed that ref's dog in a past life or something. He couldn't move but to get whistled.

They really need Rooney and a 100% Owen. BTW, my wife is angry at Beckham not getting credit for the own goal.

Good for T&T getting a point against Sweden. Quite a thing for the backup keeper to come on and blank a team that gets 18 shots.

The Argentina/IVC game was really entertaining, except for Bill Raferty doing color commentary and shouting half the time. I kept waiting for him to yell "And Crespo...with the KISS off the post". IVC need to finish better, because they easily could have won that game if they were better in the attacking third.

BTW, I'm confused as to how Ecuador's 2nd goal wasn't pulled back for offsides. The first pass sent them both through on, but the 2nd and final pass, the goal scorer was way off. I seem to recall having been called off in that exact situation before. Has that rule changed?

the offside rule is only in effect if the person recieving the ball is in front of the passer/ball. the ball can be played sideways or backwards (or forward as long as the recieving player is behind and runs onto it) and it doesn't matter.

gotcha. thanks.

That was the one thing I hated about refereeing - a majority of the parents not understanding what offsides was. That was so aggravating sometimes.

Hey now, I just couldn't remember the rule! :D

This guy is hilarious:

In anything other than winter, the Englishman abroad can generally be described by any two of the following three adjectives -- drunk, tired and hot. The England team who just beat Paraguay 1-0 were tired and hot and therefore complete pants.

The 30,000 or so England fans who are here in Frankfurt to cheer on their team, both in and outside the stadium, were largely drunk and hot. And therefore sang rather well.

By the second half the England team were very tired and very hot. And the fans were very drunk and very hot. And that's (mostly) why the singing died down in the second half. The other contributing factor was the England team's pantsness.

Wouldn't a 360 degree turn mean that it was still controlled by Argentina?

In the real world, yes, but in the world of ESPN's "F" crew, it means something entirely different.

Anyone else looking forward to Mexico crapping the bed tomorrow? :D

Yes, yes, yes!

I was trying to explain to my buddy earlier why I've decided to cheer for nuclear holocaust.

Dos a cero!

as much as i despise mexico (in a soccer sense), i want them to win. but only because i want CONCACAF to look good. the more wins, the better for our future.

As DJ Gallo pointed out, the Dutch and Serbia and Montenegro have opposite flags. Tomorrow's game could be interesting.

It could provide for some fantastic fodder for halftime speeches: "Look at the crowd! Our fans are so upset with how we're playing that they're holding our flag upside down! They've resorted to anarchy!"

Allow me to clarify. I get aggravated by parents that don't know the rule but think they know the rule and therefore I, not them, are in the wrong and get mad at me for it while I'm refereeing. It's one thing for a parent to not know the rule and ask me at halftime about it. I don't mind that in the least and I actually like that because the parent knows that they don't know the rule and I do (hence the reason I'm refereeing) and would like to know the rule themselves.

Indeed, and the more World Cup positions when it (inevitably) expands again. Australia will be making a similar push, in their perfect group.

Getting 4 in this year, and already drawing a tie and scoring twice on Germany CONCACAF has already had a very respectable start with their bottom two.

I despise the mexico-iran game today. I'll watch it but won't cheer for either team. Expect several players from both teams to recieve their SAG cards after the match.

Robben is a stud, and Holland looked very good despite the concerns about their youth. They will be an increadible team in South Africa.

mexico up 1-0

iran had been putting on pressure early, but mexico has been picking it up.

edited to add:

holland looked very impressive today- particularly robben, as mentioned. they were very exciting to watch, and could've put more in.
