Here is what espn.com's Keith Law said on a chat session today:

Kevin (Manassas): What are your thoughts on the Cubs first round pick Tyler Colvin?

SportsNation Keith Law: (3:21 PM ET ) Has to be signability, don't you think? He was a third or fourth round talent. I'm surprised that the Cubs went "cheap," especially since they went over slot last year with Utah HS pitcher Mark Pawelek. Perhaps they didn't feel anyone on the board was worth slot at #13.

ZING!

The last three of those, of course, being the picks the Cubs actually could have made. Just wanted to clarify for the casual observer. :D

I just laughed at that one.

Brewers just took a kid from Columbine High School. I would have thought that school would have changed its name by now.

if this were the NFL draft we may be up to pick #13 by now, but probably not.

Oh, and we'd be listening to Mel Kiper Jr. and Chris Berman

*shudder*

how many rounds are they doing today?

They'll do rounds 1-18 today.

Hope they pick up the pace then. I thought it was only scheduled till 6pm ET

There are still quite a few good players available for the Cubs' upcoming pick. Jordan Walden, Dellin Betances, and Matt LaPorta would all look nice at #149.

Where is LaPorta projected?

Baseball America had him at #38 in the last magazine.

He was rated #38 overall by BA so I'm rather surprised he's fallen this far.

cuubs4life, there are 10 minute breaks between rounds so we've got about 3-4 minutes left until round 5 starts.

how long of a pause is it in between rounds? it seems like it is taking quite a while.

They said they would take a 10 minute break after round 4. Should start back up in a minute.

They've historically preferred college players.
