Lining Up For Samardzija?

1:35 p.m.: Tyler Colvin came as one of the first round's largest surprises; new Cubs scouting director Tim Wilken obviously didn't waver from the guy he liked. But don't be surprised if the Cubs opted to go on the cheap early to save money for later. Jim Hendry is longtime friends with Notre Dame coach Paul Mainieri, and given the Colvin pick, don't be surprised to hear Jeff Samardzija land with the Cubs this afternoon.

That makes a bit of sense. Gonna need a lot of money to woo Jeff.

Is this kid from ND worth the Money?

He's good but not great; I believe he's a fastball/slider type of pitcher. He was 8-2 with a 4.33ERA this year. His WHIP or 1.41 could also use some work.

well, i guess I'll hang around until my wife's best friend's brother gets taken, but then i've really gotta go to work

Nate Culp, if anyone's interested.

And his K/BB hasn't been that good. I really don't get it.

Has anyone else formed a mental picture that Is_Pedro_There looks like Earl?

He's definitely first round talent, probably top 20-worthy. Of course, he's probably top-20 worthy in the NFL draft too.

I never said he had. Although I did meet him once. But that was at his sister's graduation party, so there were a lot of people around.

I was the only one with a radar gun, though.

Well BA had him ranked one below Colvin, so maybe he'll go soon.

He has a good hitting approach, though sometimes he's too aggressive. He hasn't shown much power, but there's room for growth. He has enough speed to possibly stay there.

Talk about a project/reach.

All that keeps me going is that I trust in Wilken.

I meant Samardzija. I've never really understood why he's been ranked so high.

I don't want to think about Colvin anymore today.

It will be interesting to see what % of these players make the Short-A team (here in State College) and which go straight to Full Season A-Ball. I'm dying to know how our roster shakes out
