What a terrible draft! I mean this is the first draft in the Hendry era that I really hated.

They've only had 3 picks to deal with.

It's not like they were forced to only have 3 picks in 6 rounds. They put themselves in this position with offseason moves that have them 10 games under .500 and well out of the race.

Wilken certain was forced into this position. Remember he was brought in this offseason as well and if memory serves, it was well after the FA signings. Wilken runs the draft and his hands were somewhat tied.

I'm not trying to be overly optimistic, and for the record, this draft disappoints we as well, but realistically this was a poor draft well before a single pick was made. If you had to choose a draft where you only had a few picks, wouldn't you pick the weakest draft?

I would pick a more impactful group of free agents to lose my picks over.

Who upsets you more at this point, Jones or Pierre? Just curious, include the contract situations as well.

On a side note... how sick is this future rotation for Detroit?

Bonderman, Verlander, Miller, and take your pick from Robertson, Maroth, Zumaya, or Sleeth.

Not bad at all.

Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Guzman and take your pick of Hagerty, Brownlie, Blasko or Sisco.

I'm not going to bash jones like most people on this board because he's been real good so far. I was going to be happy with a .270 hitter, 25 HR's and about 75-80 Rbi. Looks like he might exceed that.

Probably Pierre. Jones cost a couple dollars and a draft pick. Pierre cost more this year, less overall, but much more talent. And despite it being a bad signing and likely to hurt the team in the long run, Jones has produced.

LaPorta Continues To Slide

4:40 p.m.: Defensive specialist Brian Jeroloman was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth round, the second of the bearish Gator trio to be drafted today. The only player of the group remaining on the board is LaPorta, the highest ranked of the bunch this spring. LaPorta's disappointing 2006 and bonus demands are lending to quite the draft day fall, and they also lead to the distinct possibility that the Gators have bring their best slugger back. Look for LaPorta to follow in the steps of Jeff Larish and swing the aluminum bat for one more season.

Reminds me of the Cubs "future" rotation a couple years ago that included:

Wood

Prior

Z

Guzman

Nolasco/Hill/Pinto/Mitre

I don't think Miller will be too successful in the big leagues (albeit, the Tigers are more likely to help him become successful than the Royals).

If that's him, the power is a bit of a concern. Otherwise, the K/BB is reasonable. Wonder if he's worth anything defensively?
