seriously, how can you not find that funny - did you miss the USA today article or are you just humorless?

oK, I missed the article. link?

I agree with what was said earlier about humor. IMO, something isn't funny just because it makes reference to something else and you get it. The material itself needs to be funny on its own rather than rely on other material. I personally think The Simpsons has fallen off in recent years, and part of the reason why so many think it is just as great or better is because they make references and inside jokes, so people watch the show thinking that is funny enough on its own. Well, The Simpsons alway did that, but the show as a whole was just much better years ago.

While I ocassionally find them funny, I do think that Dugout's are DRASTICALLY overrated.

It's like a psychological disorder, or something. Just because you get the premise of the joke doesn't mean you have to find it funny. I think that people feel obligated to laugh at Dugouts because if they don't, it makes it look like they don't get the joke, which can damage their sports ego.

Psychoanalysis 101.

I like Dugout chats because they seem to pay attention to the same pop culture stuff me and my friends love. (Points to Leroy Jenkins joke, innumerable jokes with names, Ken Griffey as the bad guy from Unbreakable, etc.)

I think that they are generally either very funny, or extremely lame. The funny:lame ratio is probably about 1:1, IMO.

Agreed.

Also, even now a couple days later, I'm still finding new drunk posts by OMC that I haven't read yet.

EDIT: this isn't worth the fight.

On-topic: uhm, I thought Jim Thome typing in caps was novel at first. Now I don't really think it's funny... but, whatever.

Right on. Not to be a dick, but it obviously skews a lot "younger" than a bunch of the posters here, and also a lot "geekier." They'll throw in hardcore film/TV/music/comic book geek references that totally help sell it for me. The Crisis On Infinite Earths strip? Oh my God, the comic nerd in me was dying. Behold...

Trust me, "AntiMolitor" and "THOOOOOOMMMME" are pure hilarity.

There is one where Jim Thome is Leroy Jenkins, and the rest of teh Sox crew represent the geeks from the video.

It was a classic

JIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIM THOME

And the ratio of good-to-bad strips increases if either Farnsworth or Thome is in an episode. They are just fantastic.

Leroy Jenkins?

Leroy Jenkins is from a World of Warcraft video. A bunch of guys carefully planning a dungeon raid, going so far as to calculate odds of success, and finally one of the guys jumps up, and shouts "OK! Let's do this! LEEERRROYYYYY JENNNNKINSSS!"...runs into the room and ticks off a room full of dragon whelps, leading to a hilarious scene of guys trying to be in control, but just panicking and failing miserably.

If you don't play the game, it still might be funny, but probably not in the same way. It was a pretty big thing for a while though...probably last summer if I remember right?

I googled it after asking. I do remember seeing that a long time ago. I don't know anything about the game, but it was pretty funny. Not funny enough that the name stuck in my head though.
