Amazing, the good part with Womack starting meant that Neifi would be on the bench but noooooo...Dusty moved him to SS and benched Cedeno. Yeah, I know Smoltz is a RHP. I don't care.

So does this mean that bench guys should never start, and every position player should play 162 games?

It means bad bench players should never play because they're bad.

Our middle infield today consists of Tony Womack and Neifi Perez up the middle.

Wow...this franchise hit a very quick high note before heading right back down the crapper didn't it?

Remember in the thread "Cubs kids bring Cubs to the toilet" that we started talking about the Marlins?

This is officially the point where I'd trade the Cubs for the Marlins franchise.

If you're not going to play someone they shouldn't be on the team.

Agreed, Womack, Neifi, and Bynum should not be on the team.

Absolutely. Feel free to cut Womack, Perez, Hairston, Bynum, Blancoand Rusch and replace them with cheap young players who will equal their production at a quarter of the price.

EDIT: Forgot about Henry Blanco. Threw him in there too.

Honestly what's the big deal about Womack playing at 2B right now? He's no worse than any of our other options while Walker is at 1st. We all know how bad Neifi has been and Hairston is hitting .215/.262/.253. He was hot at Iowa and has given us a few hits so far.

Now if he's taking AB's from Walker once Lee gets back or if they bring him back next year, then I'll be upset. But I don't see any reason to complain about him getting starts at 2B right now.

I think its because there's a track record for letting old bad players who had mediocre years come back for more years.

Because no team with the payroll the size of ours should have Womack on the 25-man roster. It's not so much Womack vs the other options on the bench, as how bad our roster is right now.

I agree and that's why I included that in my post.

I just don't see any better options to add for the time being and he's maybe our best option to play at 2B right now. Even his horrible season last year would or his '03 season would be an upgrade over our current options.

Don't play him over Walker once Lee gets back and don't give him a stupid contract, but you might as well play him right now.

Lets see: Womack + the Neifury = 6 for 11, 2 runs, and 5 RBIs thru 9.

They must be on steriods. :P :D j/k

But seriosuly, DARN!!! This is going to give Dusty an excuse to play them more. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

I don't mind starting Womack because he might bring a little spark to the top of the lineup. To tell the truth, it might not hurt to give Pierre a day or two off, put Hairston in CF, and bat Womack at leadoff. If Womack can add a little spark for a few weeks, so be it. If he cools off, put Walker at 2B when Lee comes back.

It's bad when a guy with a career .316 OBP is an upgrade over your current leadoff man.

Never mind he played for the Yankees last year

He's an upgrade over Nefi, in my book so far.

With any other organization, I wouldn't mind giving Womack a shot...he has the potential to get hot and make things happen (he also has the potential to royally suck it up for months at a time).

But this just scenario has "Gary Gaetti Part II" written all over it.

Who else thinks that if Womack hits .270 or higher for us, he gets a 2-year deal?
