Jim Hendry is at it again - excuses, excuses, excuses. It appears that he is too afraid to admit to his error in hiring Dusty, as he proclaimed that Dusty's job is safe... after a 5-21 skid that doesn't look to be stopping anytime soon.

This management team makes me sick.

EDIT: That was my first attempt at including a link. Could someone add a functional link to that article? Danke.

"I don't think anyone would've said, 'Don't trade Ricky Nolasco for Juan Pierre' in December," Hendry said. "I still think Juan is going to come out of it and be a good player for us. He cares a lot and it's bothering him as much as anybody in the clubhouse the way we're going, and he feels responsible for the way we're going. He's probably as good an example as you'll find of a guy trying to do too much to pick the club up."

Heh, evidence that Hendry doesn't read NSBB.

They're still just waiting on that win streak before announcing the extension.

They all need to go.

I think that's the only reason why no one has been fired yet. Whether it's Rothschild, Clines, Sarge, Dick Pole, or any of the other cadre of idiot coaches, none of them have been fired yet. Typically when a team has been sucking this bad, some one like the pitching coach or hitting coach gets the axe. It might be a useless symbolic act, but it's better than doing nothing.

It's clear they gave extensions to all of those clowns.

I sadly can't disagree. I was hoping something might happen during the off-day -- even if it was symbolic (a coach being dismissed), just a sign that the Powers That Be were entertaining SOME notion that changes need to be made. I guess we're stuck with them.

If there is ONE thing the Cubs can do perfectly, is that they KNOW how to build a sinking ship.

Ok Hendry,, you can go down with this pathetic team of useless losers. I hope the heat gets so HOT, that Baker can't wait to leave Chicago.

Hendry really needs to consult us before he makes another move.

Actually, he should just pack his bags and leave Chicago (along with Dusty, the other coaches, and MacPhail).

I feel better knowing that JP isn't happy with his performance. :x :pukel:

Also, re: the nolasco for Pierre comment...some did say that, many others of us, including me, didn't say anything out of naive hope that Pierre could get back to his .370 OBP performances of past.

If the Cubs re-sign Dusty I'm officially done as a Cubs fan. At least until this administration is gone. I'll randomly pick another team (exculding St. Louis and Houston) and support them. No more buying tickets, going to games, watching games, etc.

I hate reading comments like these from our GM just as much as anyone, but come on, what did you expect him to say when discussing Baker's future with the club?

Also, it should be noted that he didn't say a word about Baker's future with the club after this season. That's encouraging.

What about the White Sox?? I'll become a more active member in Red Sox Nation if we extend Dusty. The Red Sox are my favorite AL team

I'm not really a fan of the DH so I might mildy cheer for the Sox but don't care for the AL much. That and I can't stand Hawk Harrelson (nothing against the team - just that horrid, horrid voice.) Maybe I'll pull for the Brewers.... I live up here now, you can get CHEAP tickets to the games, they've got a young club with scrappy players......

Hendry may have just elevated/lowered himself to worst GM in baseball.

To me, this attitude smacks of, "Everyone else would get rid of the manager, but I'm going to be different because we need stability." Problem is, stability is only worthwhile when it goes hand-in-hand with a competent option. Baker isn't competent. Neither is Hendry, for that matter.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to break this one out again, but desperate times call for desperate measures:

OldStyle is right. This is EXACTLY what happened to Baylor.

This means Dusty will be fired within one month.

Yeah, but he was never backewd this much by MacPhail.

I don't see how Dusty has anymore backing than Baylor did with MacPhail.

Knowing how MacPhail operates, I doubt he'd stand in Hendry's way if JH decides to fire him.

What's Jim Bowden doing these days? Yeah, he's horrible too, but how many games has Neifi batted #2 on a Bowden assembled roster? :D

Two pages and no mention of this being the "vote of confidence" that usually precedes a manager getting canned?

Hendry did this last year too.

Check the 4th post.

Unfortunately, they extended Hendry.

Hendry's love for Baker :: Baker's love for Neifi

Wow, you guys should listen to the post game show. Baker has EVERYBODY believing this is about tough breaks and things not going their way. What a joke. They also said hwo Baker was all smiles before the game and what not, and I say why? If I was in his shoes I would be embarrassed to go out there let alone be all smiles. Folks, Baker is here to stay and that is scary. Hendry got his extension and unfortunately the joke is on us.
