Pierre isn't going to turn it around anytime soon in CF and Pie doesn't need to be rushed so what would everyone think of Finley? His contract is a tad expensive at $7mil/year, but it only goes through this year with a conditional team/mutual option for 07. As long as SF doesn't ask for Pie or Marshall for him, I don't think the asking price would be too high considering his age and current salary. It wouldn't solve our leadoff problems, but Finley would be a good #2 hitter and a good platoon guy for Pie if his option is exercised next year. He also went to SIU and he'd be closer to his hometown so it seems like a decent fit; anyone have any thoughts on it?

Right. The Cubs shouldn't trade for anyone that doesn't fit the long term picture.

Trading for a player like Finley would not help this team. We should be unloading vets, not accumulating them.

i would agrue that under the current management, it doesn't matter what we should do. i would go so far as to say we do what we can, but i have no idea what that even means anymore.

Why dont we just resign Sammy and let him platoon with Jones? So we can be 71-91 instead of 69-93. I wish we had a organization smart enough to realize at this point you are a lot better off playing Greenburg and Theriot over Womack, Pierre, Perez and Hairston. I am willing to bet that Florida will definatly finish above the Cubs in 2 years, which would be the 3rd rebuild in 15 yrs, while the Cubs havent done one in my lifetime

Sure they have. They have to rebuild every year with some of these vets they keep bringing in.

Actually, I would enjoy a season or two of watching the younger guys play and develop. At least (as many of you have already stated) we'd know for sure the Cubs won't be that good and won't be so upset when they do lose the same amount of games as they will anyway.

Honestly, aside from wins and losses, I'd be pretty pleased if I thought they were just moving in the right direction with some sort of plan. At least teams like the Brewers, Marlins (sort of) and Diamondbacks are moving in the right direction.

Greenberg and Theriot would not make us "a lot" better off, if any at all. They're marginal utility/backup prospects at best, and as bad as the list of clowns you mentioned have been, they're still probably a bit better overall. The fish will be better in 2 years because they're putting a lot of young talent on the field. Key word being talent. Murton and Cedeno are not quite the caliber of Hermida and Ramirez. We need to face the facts that we have seen the last of the "great" Cubs prospects for a while, except for Pie and possibly Guzman (the one who doesn't walk everyone). AAA is pretty desolate, and AA isn't looking a whole lot brighter.

Greenberg/Theriot WOULDN'T make the Cubs any worse then they are now. The Marlins would be better, simply because they have people who knows baseball (not the owner, of course, but still) and does know the value of "The OBP." You're right Murton/Cedeno isn't i the class of Ramirez/Hermida, but Murton/Cedeno has a better chance of fulfilling their promise, whereas Hermida/Ramirez are a boom or bust type players. Considering where the Marlins play...I don't see Hermida or Ramirez showing their "full capaibilities" until they got to a pack that doesn't require a "rocket pack" just to get the ball to the OF. With that said....I'd still take Hermida/Ramirez over Murton/Cedeno anyday, but I do think Murton/Cedeno will be 2 very nice complementary players in the not-so-distant future.
