Let's see.

We trade CPatt, he takes off.

We sign Nomar, he rips his groin muscle off the bone.

We let Nomar go, he takes off.

We sign DLee to a 5 year deal, broken wrist.

We trade for Pierre, he's not playing even close to last year, let alone career levels.

We sign Wood to a 3 year deal in 2003, we've seen him start 34 times since then (2 more than 2003 total).

What the heck is going on?!

Bad baseball decisons by management from the front office on down to the trainer.

During his time as GM Jim Hendry has seen and done

A ball player leave early after the last game

Leak a video of player (lowering his already low trade value)

Hired a trainer without credentials

Fired the assistant trainer for pointing that out

A ball player call the booth during a game and then corner the broadcaster in an elevator

Fired the broadcast team and not sign the player

Set dates for players to return and have them miss those dates creating speculation that said players were/are soft

Overspend on mediocre free-agents (the list is long and includes those currently with the team at the time of the signing)

Pass on players that might help

Count on injured pitchers to be healthy

Let players who might help the team go or try to trade them away

Allow poor development of players in the farm system

Trade minor leaguers for marginal proven veterans

Not continue to scout internationally

Watch bad fundamental baseball year after year

Allow the coach to use the closer as a starter and the set up man as the closer

and the list goes on and will continue to go on.

That's a pretty incriminating list, right there.

I forgot to mention:

watch his team get worse every year since he has taken over. I know they had one more win in 04 then in 03 but they didn't make the playoffs and melted against two of the worst teams in the league in the final week of the season.

Nomar and DLee = dumb luck.

Pierre was a bad trade.

The others can mainly be attributed to the coaching staff.

I've gotta object to saying '04 was worse than '03. That '04 team makes the playoffs 9 out of 10 times. It was an immensely talented team, and I don't hold Hendry at fault for that implosion. The next 2 years, for sure, '04 was some bad luck (underplaying pythag by 5 games) and horrible managing.

in '04 if Wood/Prior stayed healthy then they would have made the playoffs. If Hawkins hadn't been the closer they would have made the playoffs. '03-'04 was the window. Now it's time to rebuild, youth movement

That may be true, but Hendry is in control of the coaching staff. He's the one who's let it go on this long and let it get this bad.

How about:

Completely ignores a fundamental aspect of the game (OPS)

Is afriad to fire anyone.

Is afraid to hold anyone accountable for anything.

Sells his players off only when their value has hit the lowest.

Also buys low.

I think they just wore out in 2004. They played longer than allowed under the CBA without an off-day at the end of the year due to rescheduling games because of the hurricane in Florida. I can forgive them for what happened in 2004, but not in 2005 or this year. Bye bye Hendry; bye bye Dusty. Yes, wishful thinking.
