I don't see what all the fuss is about. Is there ever a bad or inappropriate reason to deck AJP? I think not.

But seriously, the Cubs are so bad, I'll take my entertainment wherever I can get it.

This is the best post out of all of them on the subject. I mean it will suck not having Barrett, but AJP is an idiot and needed a good punching...plus, his take on the fight i don't take a lot of stock into...he could have avoided barrett on the walk to his helmet.......plus, it made my saturday a lot more bearable

Agreed. I'm tired of these "high morals" people (not naming anybody in particular)who think Barrett should had been the bigger person and not slug AJ. AJ's bowling over Barrett may have been considered "clean", but ask anybody in the clubhouse of any team(maybe outside of White Sox) and they will tell you...that AJ was in the wrong. You DON'T take out the cathcer, if he doesn't have the ball, regardless if he has the ball or not. How much simpler can I get. AJ should had done a hook slide, plain and simple. And I am GLAD Barrett punch AJ.

Besides Barrett did not "sucker punch" AJ. Sucker punch means not to see the punch coming. AJ clearly was looking at Barrett, when he was swinging. AJ knew the punch was coming, just he couldn't react in time to block.

It's not just "high morals" people, "low morals" people like myself just don't think there was enough there to warrant sucker punching AJP.

Whether or not is was a sucker punch may be semantics, but the universal definition is to punch a person suddenly and without warning. It doesn't matter if one sees the punch comming, the whole point of a sucker punch is that the person on the receiving end can't react because he/she was not warned that punches were going to be thrown. A person can stand face to face with another and still throw a sucker punch.

"I am about to punch you. Are you ready? It's gonna hurt. Because I'm strong. So I'm gonna punch you. Okay, on 3. No wait, it'll be on Go. Okay. 1....2....3....GO"

So, if someone taps your shoulder, you turn and they punch you, have you been sucker punched? After all, you were looking at him/her when the punch was thrown.

Fair warning could be as simple as "I'm going to kick your ***". It doesn't take much. Barrett gave no fair warning.

There's also a big difference for punching someone for no reason (i.e. walking up to a stranger on the street and smacking him) and punching someone with provocation. No one here can tell exactly what provocation Barrett had, for all we know, AJP was talking smack the game before and earlier that day, and smacking the plate coupled with running him over when there was plenty of room to slide around him was enough provocation to push Barretts emotions over. Again, this is a far cry from the random street mugging some of you are making it out to be.

Of course it's not a random street mugging our anything of that nature. It's not like a premeditated thing. Barrett lost his cool in the heat of the game. Still like Barrett, don't think of him as a thug, and he remains one of my favorite players. But, there really isn't an adequate excuse for his actions.

Are you sure you're not Joe Morgan? :D

I'm absolutely amazed people are celebrating Barrett's totally uncalled for cheap shot. You're going to block the plate and then throw a hissy fit when someone runs you over? AJ's hit was 100% legal and a part of Baseball. If Barrett is going to cry about it, he shouldn't be catching.

Barrett's proved to me over the last couple years to be nothing but a poor sport and instead of rationally analyzing a certain situation, will act out on his emotions and becomes a whiny crybaby in my book. Just last week he peesed me off with his antics by not only confronting Roberts about a situation he should've LET GO and worry about himself, but he did it with HIS MASK ON!!! If you're going to behave like a petulent child, atleast be a man and take your mask off.

His sucker punch on AJ was Bush and another example that some of you will use blind loyalty with certain Cub players. What he did was embarrassing to me and am amazed so many are coming to his defense and saying "atleast someone has fire on this team". That's a total joke.

I was amazed to see him even blocking the plate, for I've never seen him do that before. Now I know why.

And you already thought he was the worst catcher in baseball, so thank you for your clearly unbiased opinion on the topic.

Barrett's punch was a good thing. A.J. is a loudmouth jerk and was in full character for that game. The play was great, I'd like to see our players go into home on a play at the plate like that. I just don't look at it as an embarrassing thing, and if it was, who cares. He was frustrated from the losing and AJ just pushed him over the edge. That happens. He's human. And personally, I think it was the highlight of a far more embarrassing season in the standings.

Anyone else hoping for a relay bobble on Barret's triple yesterday? Anything to give Barret a reason to turn toward home plate.

You say that like he should have done so. What did you want him to say? "Hey dude, I don't appreciate what you just did so I think I'm going to punch you. Are you okay with that?" Come on, get real.

It was one man starting a fight with another. AJ has always talked the talk, but I guess he's not as tough as he tries to make people think.

What does him being a poor Defensive Catcher have to do with him proving he's a punk and a whiny unsympathetic one at that? I don't have any problems with Barrett the hitter and actually like him and root for him, cuz afterall I am a Cubs fan and do wish him well. I will also admit that he has indeed improved (however slight it may be) defensively this season.

But again, the only reason people are coming to his defense on this incident, is cuz he wears a Cubs jersey and if he was wearing any other jersey than a Cubs jersey, would be called out for what he really is. That's the simple truth.

Try being an objective fan once in awhile.

It's sad that the majority of Cub fans are thrilled by this incident, cuz it's all Cub fans have to get excited about. It was a dumb action and he was wrong for his action on so many levels, but yet Cub fans think what he did was justified? They obviously don't know the game if they feel Barrett had a right to do what he did. Not only was he wrong and out of line, but he will cost his team atleast 5 games and it was selfish.

I see the point I made clearly escaped you. You cannot ridicule one side for not looking at an incident objectively when you are not doing the same. Your disdain for Michael Barrett is already known, thus saying everyone who thinks the act was not "dumb" and needs to look at things objectively is no different than what you are doing from the other side.

C'mon...you've been one of the most unobjective posters in this thread. Don't pretend you can speak for others, because you're way off. He lost his cool, he screwed up, and he's going to be punished. End of story. You're grouping him into the same catagory as people like Mike Tyson.
