I think Barrett has become my favorite Cub. He seems to be the only one out there with the cajones to try to get the team fired up. It's a shame Wood or Zambrano weren't pitching because they would have beaned the next batter. Unfortunately, it's hard to fire up a bunch of .200 hitters against the World Champs.

While it's always great to see anyone punch AJP in the jaw for any reason, Barrett just secured a week's worth of starts for Blanco. That won't be firing anyone up anytime soon, unless it leads to such god-awful playing that Dusty gets fired.

Barrett also could've fired the team up by getting a base hit or a home run instead of grounding into a double play in the first. Hopefully he'll appeal and MLB will take their usual six-eight weeks to give a ruling.

I hope that I'm wrong, but can this performance following the fight finally put to rest the talk about needing to fire up the team?

I was really hoping it would... but with the absence of Barrett, the fire can go even more down.

No he didn't. If he gets suspended, what he did is give an opportunity to play in the majors to one of our current minor league catchers. A team can't play with only one active catcher, so a roster move would have to be made to bring up a catcher. Presumably that catcher would get some of the starts.

My guess would be Theriot would go back down and an Iowa catcher would come up.

#1. Baker

#2. They would just have Mabry fill in.

Come on, Blanco would start just about every game if that happens.

Michael Barret is my hero, hes the only one on the team that shows any heart out there..If theres anyone that needs to get jacked in the face in baseball, its definetley AJP..that guy is just so damn annoying and irritating... Im definetly having a drink tonight for michaels heroics...cheers to u barret

Barrett has been my favortie Cub since he got in Roy Oswalt's face a few years back...Hell maybe it was last year. The seasons all seem to run together when your favorite team plays like the Cubs do. Then the situation last week against the Padres and Dave "Don't call me 'Bip'" Roberts.

Here's an idea, fire Dusty and have Barrett be Player/Manager. Hell the last guy I remember to do that was Pete Rose. I think MLB needs another player/manager. Why? I have no idea. But really, it CAN"T get any worse!!!

Here are my thoughts on the fight, as posted in the game thread:

-AJP is an ass.

-There is no way AJP could have know wher that ball was at

-He should NOT have plowed into barrett the way he did--thats something you do when the catcher has the ball in his hands. And afterwards, you act like a grown up, and dont slap the plate.

-AJP is an ass for slapping the plate the way he did

-Barrett is now my hero for jacking that prick in the face

-Barrett probably shouldnt have punched him and will now pay the price (5-10 games?)

-I am really not looking forward to the next 5-10 games w/out barrett

-I am REALLY not looking forward to all the bandwagon Sox fans at school on monday "D00D AJP IS A GRATE GUY WOO DIDINT DU NOTHIN RONG! HI WAZ PLAING HARD BAEZBOL! AND BARRET TOTALLY GOT HIZ AZZ KICKED!!! LOL!"

-It makes me smile that the cubs, if nothing else, are good fighters. Farnz owned Wilson. Barrett Owned AJP and whoever that was on deck. Neither Farns or Barrett took a shot.

Barrett just signed his walking papers outta Wrigley, after all, Hedry dont take kindly to bad apples...

Bad apples in their own clubhouse yes. I doubt team chemistry will go down because of Barrett's actions.

The guy on Fox just said he thinks Barrett will be out 10 games for that.

I don't blame AJP for crashing into him, he was in front of the plate. But the slap was pretty uncalled for, and I'm going to assume he said something. Plus, I don't know what he was doing in walking towards Barrett/Cubs dugout. Oh well, Barrett just did what everyone person in MLB has dreamed of. Props to Michael.

They just showed the replay on fox, again. And aside from teh plate slap, and the initial play, AJP also leaned way into barrett when barret was trying to stand up, which doesnt make sense, because AJ's dugout is down the third base line, he was leaning towards first, or more specifically, into barrett.

AJ is an ass. Barrett shouldnt have punched him, but i'm sure glad he did.

1) Yes

2) Yeah, so that helps his cause.

3) Thats a completely clean play. He has every right to blow into Barrett if hes blocking the plate trying to catch the ball

4) Yeah, he is

5) In my eyes, heros in baseball are those who decide wins and losses. Not only did the fight fire up the White Sox and not the Cubs, but the two Cubs that replaced Barrett and Mabry hit into 2 DPs.

6) Yup, probably at least 7 games, likely 9-10...but it doesn't matter, the Cubs suck anyways. Just gives them more excuses

7) Glad I don't goto HS anymore lol[/b]

I'm embarrassed to be a Cubs fan today. Not because of the losing effort on the field, but because of the unsportsmanlike, baby-fit that Barrett threw.

It's not cool to get into physical fights. You're not any more of a man for punching others in the face. In fact, I think it's white trash behavior. It's disturbing some fans celebrate this.

Barrett was blocking the plate and AJ ran through him. It was not a dirty play on AJ's part. AJ saw that Anderson hit a shallow fly ball to left and knew he was a slow runner so the play at home would likely be close. Add to the fact that AJ couldn't see the throw developing behind him, but had to know it was close since Barrett otherwise wouldn't be blocking the plate, and you can realize that this is a clean play and a part of baseball.

The collision was perfectly clean, but it did look like AJ may have leaned into Barrett after the play. The smart move for Bare would have been to let AJ bump him so AJ could draw an ejection. Unfortunately that plate slap made Bare lose his cool.

Fully agree with you.

That said, it was probably the Cubs only chance to take a shot at AJ. We all know they can't even get close enough to scoring a run to have a play at the plate for somebody plow over AJ on.

Terrible, classless move by Michael, but I did like seeing AJP knocked in the jaw.

Listening to 720 all game, Hughes said AJ was walking to pick up his helmet.

They mentioned that on Fox too, but it was diffuted because they saw his helmet between home and the Sox dugout apparently.
