That's just stunning. I cannot believe how screwed up this organization has become in 3 short years. I'm embarrased to be a Cubs fan right now. That's the kind of behavior that should never, ever happen.

They have no business telling the media what to report.

Kind of makes you think about that prospect's accusation about how Hendry treated him. Not to say Jim did ruin his career, but he comes across as a decent guy in most interviews, but it's coming out that he's much more of a jerk we might have thought.

Which may affect more aspects of his job than we realize. If he's a jerk, it can affect all manner of negotiations.

Could be why Neifi and Rusch were so expensive.

I wonder if Bruce has received any similar treatment from either Andy or Jim?

Not like that anyway. They've told me they didn't like a story or a column here or there, but it never got to the point where we were cussing at each other.

Knowing what I know about that situation, I'll side with Jim. Maybe the Cubs shouldn't have drafted that kid in the first place.

Baltimore doesn't mind fleecing us, and they have former Cub people in their organization. Not sure they would do a trade that was fair or even.

The Dodgers won't even talk to the Cubs (from what I gather) and they have former Cub people. Why is that?

I certainly agree with that last line. Sounds like the Cubs failed to do their due diligence, which is kind of like the way they completely ignore objective analysis, and have no clue about the demand for such players as Estes, Alf, Rusch and Perez.

So Hendry has a good relationship with Scott Boras, but not some GMs.

Dear Andy and Jim,

I understand the frustrations you feel with Paul Sullivan. Over the years, he has given us all reasons to raise an eyebrow and utter the occasional obscenity. I have put together a comprehensive guide on how to get Mr. Sullivan and others to stop being critical of you and your teams. Please follow the steps below:

1. Stop putting together really crappy teams full of overpaid mediocre talent and have no shot at doing anything to get themselves even remotely close to resembling a good team.

2. Repeat step 1

Thank you, that is all.

What an absolute embarrassment this organization has become. I hope the Chicago media throws egg all over the Cubs face on this one. I'm getting more ticked off the more I think about this.

Isn't this just like the Cubs?

Everytime I think it can't get any worse... it does. Every time.

The cubs attempting four sac bunts in one game: bad

Aramis with back spasms: worse

Neifi bunts to end a game: bad

Learning the Hendry & Co. are berating a sportswriter: worse

It just keeps sinking to new lows.

I expect the next thing to happen is

Swept by the Sox: bad

Tony Womack called up, Ryan Theriot sent down: worse.

I really had no idea that people could berate the Tribune writers.

Wish I had known this sooner.

Sun Times article from today. If it is true, it is pretty sad.....

"All in the family? Sneed hears top Chicago Cubs executives Andy MacPhail and Jim Hendry berated Chicago Tribune sports editor Dan McGrath and Cubs beat writer Paul Sullivan over what they felt was the paper's unfairly critical coverage of the team. The expletive-laced tongue-lashing supposedly took place last week at Wrigley Field, according to a source."

I hope these "tongue lashings" continue to light a fire under McGrath and Sullivan. I hope they KEEP POUNDING Hendry/MacPhail and the Cubs organization for their lack of integrity, their lack of baseball plan, and flat out their lack of common sense. Keep these guys FEELING THE HEAT. They have been too comfortable with there roles for too long. Enough is enough. If you read this, Bruce Miles, same applies to you. Keep th heat on.

See: Hundly, Todd

I don't think it has anything to do with the Hundley deal as that occurred under the old Dodger regime. I think it has to do with Coletti's relationship with the current Cub brass as he used to work for them.

It's hard to imagine drafting a guy high without even talking to his coaches. If that's how the Cubs roll, then surely there's no wonder we are this bad.

Silver lining: Maybe Sullivan gets taken off the Cubs beat.

Or they could have the trib hire a beat writer who will do nothing but lick the organization.

That'd be even better...

Open Letter to Cubs Management

Dear Mr. MacPhail, Hendry, Baker, et al....:

As a life long Cub fan, I applaud your efforts in recent years to bring a winner to the North Side of Chicago. What I find completely offensive and insulting to the loyal fans of this team, who have been suffering for years, is your complete disregard for the task at hand and you inability to accept any measure of accountability for the current state of the team. I find it very disheartening that instead of trying to fix the numerous problems that have manifested over the last few years, you find it necessary to berate a beat writer for doing his job and commenting on the state of the team. Take responsibility for your role in putting together a team that has relied heavily on players who have a history of spending time on the DL every year. Take responsibility for not having put together any kind of a bench when you know that injuries are going to occurr. Take responsibility for consistently, over the last three years, putting a team on the field that has displayed a poor understanding of the fundamentals of the game. I am and always will be a die hard Cub fan, win or lose, but the actions coming from the front office of this ballclub are a disgrace and make me embarrassed to call myself a fan. You guys are getting paid big money to do a job most of can only dream about, at least act like a professional instead of throwing a tantrum because someone is holding your feet to the fire and pointing out obvious flaws with the team. I am no fan of Paul Sullivan, but no one deserves to be treated like that. You sent Mercker packing for doing the exact same thing when he complained about the TV announcers somehow I doubt that you will be held accountable for doing the exact same thing. Shame on you.

Disgruntled Cub Fan.

edit: not sure if this should have gone in rants, but it has to do with the conversation in this thread.

This is absolutely pathetic. I could see management getting angry if a beat writer was criticizing the team for no apparent reason. But with the way this team is playing right now, there isn't any reason at all to compliment the organization. Going off on a beat writer for doing his job and uncalled for. I would be embarrassed if I was Andy MacPhail and Jim Hendry right now and I'm glad Sneed reported ths incident.

Don't those two idiots (MacPhail and Hendry) know that if you want good press you have to do something good with the team. Right now it seems like they are trying to run the organization into the ground. I know that some of the offseason signings ticked some people off here but the problems run far deeper than that. I would be happy if that was the only problem here. But it's the whole philosophy of the organization that is the issue. It's like they don't seem to care at all. The only excuse they use is bad luck. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS!! Is it that hard to blame somebody? You don't have to do it through the media, do it on the field. I think people will get the point if they see Neifi not playing at all - this includes pinch hitting - for a couple days. Don't start Jacque Jones for a couple days after he makes a baserunning error. If people don't seem like they are trying SIT THEM ON THE BENCH. It's not hard to do. At this point, I don't care if it costs the team a game or two or the whole season, but a point needs to be made. Sometimes you need to sacrifice something to achieve a greater goal.

I'm not going to quit on the Cubs because they're my team, although I can easily see how some people might. We can only hope that something changes and changes quick. Although I get the feeling that's not going to happen.
