The Mendoza line has been the standard of Major League futility for what, about 35 years? If Neifi can finish the season at .190 or worse, maybe it's time for a new standard. Who knows, maybe Neifi gets a plaque in Cooperstown....

I'm wondering if he can beat his career low OPS+ of 40 for KC in 2002. He did that in over 550 PAs. Mendoza averaged 41 for his career, but never had 400 PA in any one season.

Mendoza never had Dusty for a coach.

Actually Mendoza did have 401 PAs in 1979 when he played for the Mariners. He went .198/.216/.249/.465 that season. He was a hell of a fielder though.

Always felt Auggie could give him a run for his money, but Neifi seriously is better than this. He needs to pull his head out of his tail section.

How Neifi can even walk into the clubhouse and look at his teammates in the eye after that USELESS bunt is beyond me.

This is a new all-time low in Neifi ineptitude.

Also, game ending bizarro bunts.

Yeah but remember that really cool catch in shallow right early in the year? Perez knows how to end a game with an array of bizzare stunts.

Neifi, I'm not wishing death on you, but please get injured for the rest of the year. You are, without a doubt, THE most useless player I have ever seen. And this includes Jose Macias.

It is funny that it's almost always one of our best players that misses an extended amount of time.

I must say that the NSBB contingent found the bunt amusing, in a "holy crap that was dumb" kind of way

You're here! I figured all of your heads exploded and were splattered in the bleachers...

SOMEBODY'S head needs to roll for in effect forfeiting the game. If Neifi did it on his own, he needs to be DFA'd TODAY. If Dusty called for it, he needs to be fired TODAY. It was important to get a sweep against the worst team in the league. Bunting with two outs and Perez representing the winning run is 100% inexcusable.

Agreed. You know I've been a Cubs fan for a long time. Since I don't live in Chicago I signed up w/ NSBB to take part in baseball discussions with other Cubs fans. I don't post too often and I'm not prone to hyperbole or too much sarcasm (enough I suppose). I can take the wins with the losses...no problem.......BUT.......

THAT was the single worst example of major league baseball I have seen.

I have always disliked Neifi and always just considered him to be one of Dusty's boys but enough is enough.......He has no business being in a Cubs uniform...none what so ever.

Yep. We'd given up by that point, so while the bunt was horrific, it wasn't a complete catastrophe.

Dusty already said "It wasn't a bad play" so no heads will roll

How was that NOT a bad play? That man is totally delusional...

is mabry still serviceable @ 3b?

heckuva time for fat rammy to get hurt too.

Just once, I want to see a Cubs starting player that's not indispensable go on the DL rather than a star. Pierre, Mabry, even Cedeno would fall under that category.

I have no problem with Baker if he tells Perez privately that it was a bonehead move and tells the press what it wasn't a bad play.

If that's the scenario, I'm all for it. Unfortunately, I have no faith that's the case...

I doubt it happened too but I have to have some sort of faith. These guys can't really be that bad, can they?
