Hey, man. Didn't he win a game for us against St. Louis? Are we just supposed to forget about that? Throw it back like a 2 inch bluegill? Boy, he's just being aggressive, know what I mean? Back in Atlanta, I remember running to wash off the hot dogs that got tossed on the floor so we could eat them. That is aggressiveness, know what I'm sayin'? Man, everyone makes mistakes. Not me, but everyone else...

What game? Barrett won the game we swept, not jones

so far jones has done more bad than good

Jones did hit the three run homer though. And like somebody else said, Jones has been one of our better hitters recently. I'm not trying to excuse him for his baserunning though.

Jacque Jones is not the reason the Cubs have lost 14 out of 17 games.

I know that he's not free from blame, but honestly, how many of those 14 losses did Jacque cost us?

i never said it cost us wins, at the time, like tonight, and 2 weeks ago tonight, it potentially cost us runs with men at 3rd

So Jacque has made mistakes, who hasn't? Jacque is not the one we need to blame the most. Aramis and Pierre still aren't hitting and the starting pitching with the exception of Z, hasn't showed up at all. There are other players that need to shoulder more blame than Jones.

Please point out anyone else who has been doubled off 3 times during this season like Jones has. On ANY team.

That alone right there makes him desvering of threads like this You can't have baseball 101 much more basic than that. It's embarassingly bad. Stupidity like that WILL cost you games, bank on it.

I've already addressed his baserunning.

As for costing them a game, can you see the future? Do you know for sure if he will cost the Cubs a game? No you don't. I wouldn't be surprised if he does, but until he actually does, you can't say he will.

I think greg maddux might take exception to your comments. Jones's baserunning is simply incomprehensible and inexcusable. It says "I don't care."

THREE TIMES ITS HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, I understand that it's happened three times. I've read the whole thread and have heard that point numerous times already. There is no need to keep bringing it up to make your point. Eventually you have to say something else.

I'm not trying to excuse Jones's errors and his baserunning COULD end up costing us a game. But nobody knows for sure. The problems with this team go far deeper than Jacque Jones and he is the least of our worries right now.

Can we trade him to Baltimore for Corey Patterson?

no one is saying there are no other problems with the team! Do you seriously not have a problem with this?

A problem with what?

with a professional baseball player getting doubled off second three times in two weeks - that's what this thread is about, isn't it?

Did you read the whole thread? Apparently not. Let's see what I've said about his baserunning.

It's just stupidity. You're learn in little league that when the ball is hit in the air you need to make sure it falls before you run.

Just think about that. There are thousands of 9 year olds that run the bases better than Jacque Jones.

I'm not trying to excuse him for his baserunning though.

Not once have I said that Jacque's baserunning is okay and if you would the whole thread you would know this. I'm just saying that Jacque is not our biggest problem right now and I'm sick of everybody bashing him relentlessly. It's just stupid. The guy has been one of our better hitters this year and all some people can do on this board is bash him. That's what I'm talking about. Do I need to put it in bold for you to understand? If so, here you go. I AM NOT EXCUSING JACQUE JONES AND HIS HORRIBLE BASERUNNING AND HE SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS. Happy now? Do you get it?

Posted
oh, since there are other problems we shouldn't rip jones for his ridiculous baserunning? I don't get it. When a player does something that indicates he is completely not paying attention, he should be ripped for it. I don't understand why people shouldn't rip him just because there are other problems on the cubs.

for a team that's lost 14 of 17 there sure seems to be a lot of blameless parties. apparently this horrendous stretch is simply nobody's fault.

todd walker needs to quit talking.

Afterward, Todd Walker criticized Cubs fans for being too harsh on the team and on Jones in particular.

"Understand the game a little more," Walker said. "Back this team because we have a great chance to do some good things."

understand the game a little more? are you kidding me? in defending the guy who has been doubled off THREE times in the last two weeks (THREE!!!), you're telling the fans to understand the game a little more? maybe jones was passing by walker in the locker room and todd was talking to him.

And I'm trying to say that more people than just Jones should be blamed. I agree that Jones isn't free from blame, but it seems like he is used as a scapegoat more than anybody else. At first it was his hitting. But then he started to hit and people moved on to something else. The guy had something thrown at him today. Is that really justified? No. A lot of people look at his contract (which isn't his fault) and don't give him a chance to play. I don't mind placing some blame on Jacque but blame other people also. I brought this up in another thread, but Aramis deserves more blame than Jones does right now as does Pierre. The pitching staff hasn't exactly been up to par either.

Jones conceded he should have stayed at second base.

REALLY?????? you think?

i would have been really concerned if he had said, "you know what...i stand by my decision to run to 3rd as the left fielder caught the ball. i'm not 100% clear on the rules, and i think that's allowed. i'd do it again should i get the chance."

yeah, because tons of people in this thread have been saying that throwing stuff at jones is justified. come on. and who hasn't given him a chance to play? nobody here is stopping him. what does that even mean?

jones deserves the blame he's gotten b/c he's been awful. he's sucked offensively, defensively, and on the bases. just b/c everyone else has sucked too doesn't mean jones gets a free pass.

I don't blame Todd. What else are you supposed to say? You gotta back your teammate even if that means stepping on some fans' toes in the process. If he'd said "Oh, that was a horrendously dumb play and if I was in the bleachers I'd have been tossing crap at him too" that wouldn't exactly help matters.
