If they take Jock off the Cubs' hands, I'd be dancing out on State Street.

Thing is...that's not going to happen. :(

I'm sure the morons in NY will start up Murton for Cano rumors or something equally stupid, though.

I'd offer something along the lines of Jones + Guzman/Hill + Novoa/Ohman for Giambi + cash.

There's no way they do that; they wouldn't even think about it. Their 'no' would literally be reflexive, like kicking a leg after a doctor taps it.

Giambi's contract is one of the most disgusting I've ever seen.

Where would he play when Lee comes back?

Any chance they try to go after Miguel Cabrera or do the Marlins have no interest in trading him?

Depends on how cheap the Marlins are. The Yanks could throw Philip Hughes, Melky Cabrera, and a wad of cash at them for him.

It would not be an even return, but hey, money talks.

And if that happens, you might as well fold up the Marlins organization, cause that would signal the fact that the Marlins have no intentions of competing again.

i wouldn't ever doubt the marlins...they have rebuilt and won the WS twice. they look like they will again.

if they would simply take jones and his salary, i might throw in a prospect for free.

seriously jones for a class A backup catcher that they are about to release. or the proverbial bag of balls!

we could bring up pie or heck..just play bynum for the rest of the year and suck..at least we wouldn't have jones out there blocking any chance of pie moving in!

i don't have a huge problem with jones other than the fact he is here for 3 years. we are not going anywhere this season so let's worry about the near future. torre and george may be smart enough to platoon him and make him a very useful player...and 6 mil is about what they pay parttimers!

get on the phone jim!

the problem is that this means that hendry would be admitting what a terrible move this was

How about working a three-way with the Nats and Yanks where we deal Jacque and and one of our best pitching prospects and we get back Church.

OK, I know that won't happen, but a guy can dream, right?

If the Yankees agree to that trade, I'll change my name to DouchebagMcGee. Until then let's put away the drugs and stop proposing Jones + Guzman/Hill + Novoa/Ohman for Giambi + cash trades.

Well played.

Hendry's not going to give up on Jones this early - doing so would be a public admission that the signing was a mistake. Torii Hunter would make sense for the Yankees - he's in the last year of his contract and they've had their eye on him for a few years now.

Jones to NY, Hunter to Chicago, NY and CHC prospect to Twins.

Then trade Pierre to a willing team. Extend Hunter.

I would normal say your right about Hendry not throwing the towel so soon but the Cubs need to shake up this team and trading Jones would be a shakeup. I forsee the yankess getting Jose Guillen from the Nats.

You do know that Corey Patterson and Juan Pierre project to be more valuable than Hunter over the next five years, right?

Just sayin.

ESPN Insider mentioned Abreu.

I think they try to get Jose Guillen. Cubs don't have anything they need.

are you kidding??

Cano for prior and jones plus cash....done deal. we need a 2B

"If the Phillies are ready to deal the All-Star, the Yankees probably wouldn't have to give up much talent -- maybe a couple of Grade B prospects -- in order to get him, because of the size of his contract."

The Cubs had better get in on this if that's all it takes.

I don't think Abreu could be had for a couple of "b" prospects. Maybe I'm wrong, but during the offseason, they wanted a top-of-the-line starter. Why would things be different now?

Because the Yankees are involved and it's ESPN reporting. I don't believe any of it.

Besides that, Who would the Yanks trade for Abreau? If it is prospects, they don't have many.

Abreau is to the Phillies as ManRam is to the Red Sox........always rumored to be going somewhere a few times a year and never gets traded. The Phils have a chance to make a playoff run...........why trade Abreau and if you did you'd have to have an impact player coming back to help them immediately.

IMO, it just doesn't make much since from the Phils perspective to trade Abreau right now.
