Going to have surgery Friday and they are going to insert metal rods/plate. Gone for year and may be career threatening at his age.

I sure hated to see a great guy like Matsui get hurt that bad. He means a lot of things to a bunch of different people and he gives 110% everyday despite playing in over 500 consecutive games.

2-3 months for DLee isnt looking so bad now.

Guess we see how good Cashman is as a GM and how bad George wants this next one. No way the Yanks can compete with an OF of M. Cabrera, Williams, and Damon- especially with Sheffield on the shelf for a while too.

Why couldn't Barry Bonds suffer an injury like this? Oh wait, that would require Bonds to actually have the ability to dive for a ball.

With Sheffield and Matsui both on the DL I'll bet the Yankees don't stand pat like you know who.

The may have to "stand pat" for the time being, considering any "valuable" OFer isn't on the market, and the Yankees simply just can't throw money at EVERY team. I'm sure they will target guys like Hunter, C. Wilson, etc..etc...

the replay of that looks horrible. his wrist bent completely back

It looked nasty, and he kept on the play too if I remember right.

Puts an end to a hella starts streak too, cant remember the exact number though, like over 500 for the Yanks and ALOT more if you include over in Japan(?).

Jacques Jones would look great in a Yankees uniform.

Seconded. How about a three way deal where the Yanks get Jones and we get Church from the Nats? O:)

I would do a trade of nothing for Jones.

It actually looked like Matsui broke his arm. I don't know what constitutes the "Wrist," but that break looked to be a little above the wrist. Sick.

where are you hearing this gone for the year and career threatening stuff?

Hideki Matsui suffered a fractured left wrist making a catch in the first inning Thursday. He'll undergo surgery on Thursday.

No additional details yet. Four to six weeks is the best-case scenario for Matsui. A six- to eight-week absence is also possible. The Yankees will probably recall Kevin Thompson and have him enter a rotation with Melky Cabrera and Bubba Crosby until Gary Sheffield comes back. Unless Sheffield has a setback, the Yankees shouldn't need to trade for an outfielder just yet.

That sounds optimistic.

Didn't see and don't want to. I really like watching Matsui play. It would be nice if something about this baseball season didn't suck, but I guess that's asking quite a bit.

ESPN is reporting that the surgery was successful on his wrist this morning. He will be out the rest of the year, but is expected to make a full recovery once it has healed.

Matsui

That article doesn't say he'll be out the rest of the year. It says a minimum of three months, and PROBABLY MOST of the rest of the year. That could mean that he'd have a chance of returning for the stretch drive and postseason.

Stand up guy too, though unnecessarily. Apologizing to Torre, as if he has anything to apologize for. Just being there everyday busting his ass for him.

More players should be like Matsui.
