The only things mounting faster than the losses are the bad managerial decisions and excuses. The only things worse than the record are the fundamentals.

Will this horrid run continue, and terminate in with Dusty's termination, or will we be held hostage by mere mediocrity all season?

I think he will last at least as long as it takes Wood and Prior to pitch 3 or 4 times.

I guess that would make his date for termination around the trade deadline.

I just think Hendry will want to let him give it a shot with the big guns pitching.

Hendry should start by firing himself. Dusty has done a horrible job, but he's not the one who has continued to stand pat on a problematic offense. The offense has been a problem for a long time, and it's rearing its ugly head yet again. I don't think we can just point to Lee's injury and Dusty's ineptitude.

Oh how I long for those days of mediocrity.

I was thinking the "being held hostage by mediocrity" thing would be the same thing as last year: Winning just enough for Dusty to keep his job via the injuries excuse, but not enough to mean anything.

First of all your topic headline is really unkewl and needs to be changed. While you may not like Dusty, there is no reason to cheer for his death. That is way way way over the top.

Second, Dusty isnt going to be fired this season. Two reasons: #1- his contract is up at the end of the year. #2- If Hendry brought someone else in to manage, they would get the same result, which would be the end of the Hendry Administration. Hendry not being dumb, wont let that happen.

Re-named the thread. That's not kosher.

Oh, and fire Dusty, Hendry and MacPhail.

I didn't mean it literally, jeez. I'm not entire sure how anyone could take the title literally, but......

I like Dusty, I just despise his managing.

I think they'll give him til July when Wood & Lee are back. Doubt they wait til next year when Prior returns.

If they're 5 or more under, I think he's gone. There's some rumbling in the mainstream media about Baker getting the ax, so I think his job's on the line.

I'd much rather see Baker go than Hendry. Baker's main asset is being a "player coach," and that tends to run its course over several year when player stop listening. If Baker was more of a tactician, he'd still be pretty useful. HOwever, tactics is the biggest mark against him.

Altogether, if the Cubs don't win over 86 games, I think he's gone.

That's not true. Interim managers don't cause General Managers to get fired. If the team didn't perform well under the new manager, Hendry would have a chance to bring in a new manager at the end of the season and would have another couple years to decide his fate. It's either that or he extends Baker and they all go down with the ship together in another year or 2.

Hes not going anywhere. He has 2 years of major injury excuses. If they stay where they're at ,he'll get credit for holding it together. If they fall, they'll blame the injuries.

Does anyone think it would be like a breath of fresh air for the team if Dusty goes? No more stupid quotes they have to nod and smile at, no more stupid moves they have to support. No more stupid lineups and stupid double switches and stupid sac bunts. I know for the fans it would be, but I think for the team too. There seems to be a losing air that follows baker around in Chicago at least - lately. I think it feel like a big dark cloud was just shattered to pieces by sunlight.

Ahhhh. The Dream.

Honestly, at what point does Hendry just take a long look in the mirror and realize he's done a poor job of assembling this team (2005 as well)? It has to be obvious to him at this point. I mean, really, they are only missing one player that they expected to have in the lineup (Lee). Certainly he's their best player, but how many more wins would they have if he was healthy? I'd think maybe only a couple at best.

He overpaid for two poor outfielders (Jones and Pierre) and VASTLY overpaid for two terrible players (Neifi and Rusch). He "assembled" an absolutely horrible bench (again). All while operating with one of the highest payrolls in the NL. He's just done a poor job the last few years. There's really no other way to say it. He's made some nice moves in the past, for sure. But he's done very poorly the last couple of years.

Oh, also, Dusty sucks.

If they stay where there at? This team has lost 9 of 10 and is going nowhere fast. They have no semblence of an offense and the idiotic manager is batting Murton 8th and continues to put a guy in the lineup who can't hit a lefty to save his life. Leaving out the discussion of Hendry's mistakes, Dusty is a horrible manager and has no clue as to what he is doing from the time he makes out the lineup card til the game is over. He is pathetic and I am getting a little tired of hearing people use the injury excuse to give him a pass. He was a bad manager in S.F. and he has been a horrible manager in Chicago from Day 1.
