How many teams have possibly their best pure hitter in the lineup batting 8th? And on top of that... the worst batting 5th?

Murton batting eighth?

ugh...that walk he took last night must have made Dusty mad.

0.346	0.370	0.615	0.985	Jones
0.125	0.250	0.125	0.375	Mabry
0.278	0.350	0.556	0.906	Bare
0.250	0.375	0.250	0.625	Murt

Why are Jones, barrett of Murton batting behind Maybe?

Think Fred missed this:

Jamey Wright has not lost to the Cubs since May 9, 2001, when he was with Milwaukee, going 3-0 with a 2.78 ERA in five starts.

Could be a long day for the offense, especially w/ Mabry batting 5th & Murton 8th. Great lineup Dusty!

I'm pretty sure there's a rule that your firstbaseman has to hit 3,4,or 5.

only in the NL, in the AL, you can actually stack your lineup for runs

Is Mabry batting fifth (again) similar to the CF/2B/SS, putting put in the 1-2 spots no matter who it is? 1st basemen have to be in the power spots. Murton is not being batting below 6th in that lineup, and its laughable that Barrett is behind Mabry.

Why did they call up Theriot? He could go to the plate without a bat and do better than Mabry.

I don't know about that, Theriot is not much of a threat to do anything productive.

Yeah, it was kind of a stretch, but anyway what's the point of having him up?

Pretend you're doing something.

He was quicker than Restovich?

How does a guy like Jamey Wright make to the show and manage to hang around for 11 years? 63-91 W-L, 5.11 ERA lifetime stats, took a look at his Minor League stats - nothing spectacular. Haven't looked but, I'm guessing the Cubs are the only team he's had success against - typical.

I suppose the good thing about this is that Barrett, Jones and Murton aren't being broken up by Mabry's sorry bat.

Then again, we could accomplish that by batting Mabry eighth too... :x

Piere batting 2nd is a good idea. Ill give Dusty that and glad he tried that yesterday. Can Cedeno work on some patience now, please. This is a good spot for him to to do it.

Personally I would rather see Walker 2 and Murton 3. Or even put Murton in the leadoff, Cedeno 2nd and Walker 3.

For the record, I have no problem with Murton batting in the 8th spot. I'm much more concerned with who is in the lineup rather than where they are, and Murton isn't doing anything against RHP anyway.

And have Jones/Mabry/Pitcher/Pinch hitter. The only bat the Cubs have from the right side are Hairston/Theriot and Blanco. Neifi as sucky suck as he is is worse from the right. Bynum comes from the left too. That would be such an easy spot to put a LOOGY in. Also after this you would have Cedeno followed by 2 more lefties. Of course what lefty goes 6 batters.

If you were filling out the lineup, would you have put Mabry 5th and Murton 8th?

Question:

I take it that I am next on deck for starting gamethreads? (Haven't gotten an e-mail notification, but noticed that sethual1 (spelling not correct, please pardon my mistake) is up, and I follow after him.

I tried to check up on the Game Thread Starters forum, but that list haven't changed yet, on page 1.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that I read that batting order is essentially meaningless.

Perhaps, but Dusty doesn't think so, or he wouldn't have switched Pierre and Cedeno. And for a guy that thinks that lineups matter, this isn't a good one.
