Drastic changes are required ... 6 games ago. Bring up Pie and sit Pierre. Fire Baker and replace him ... with anyone semi-competent. Fire Clines and replace him ... with anyone semi-competent. It's a good thing my job rules, because between women and this God-forsaken Cubs team I would definitely be on suicide-watch otherwise.

I don't think firing Baker is going to help much. Until Hendry figures out the value of a walk and getting players who do walk this team is going to struggle on offense. The aggressive, toolsy hitters just aren't working.

If Baker was the only problem we'd be in good shape. Instead, he's one of many, many problems. Remember only a few years ago people thought Riggleman was the only problem, then people thought Baylor was the only problem. The problem is with MacPhail, Baker, Hendry, the scouting dept., the minor league system, etc.

This is real depressing. It could be years before we field a contending club.

You know that I have a problem with the entire organizational philosophy Dal, but unfortunately MacPahail and Hendry aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Firing Dusty would at least bring a wry smile to my face.

I say bring back Don Baylor...At least then we didn't expect to win.

But seriously, I don't care who replaces Baker at this point, unless they can pull a 03' Jack McKeon, but the whole staff needs to go. Except maybe Chris Speier.

...Hey what's McKeon up too these days???

No really....what about McKeon. We do have a few key pieces to the 03' Marlins team.

Aren't there a dozen other threads calling for major shake-ups? Can't all the fire Baker threads be merged?

It's becoming more and more clear with each passing day that this team's goal has now become to eclipse the '62 Mets for most losses in a season. I give them a hardy good luck in their quest. They should have no problem, as this is the worst team I have ever seen.

I share your pain. I was 10 in '89 as well. I was convinced that it was a sign of things to come. I was an idiot.

Look, isn't it obvious that we were all idiots when we were ten? I think I spent the entire summer that year beating Legend of Zelda.

Nowadays I can beat it in 2-3 hours.

In reality, what do guys feel is Dusty's chances of being fired?

I don't think it's much until after Lee, Wood, and Prior come back. Unless he contiues to lead the Cubs to 1-8 streaks.

What if they Cubs are 15 out by the All-Star game? Is Dusty gone?

As much as I hate to say it, I still think the chances are slim to none...

Wood will return, followed by Miller, Prior, and Lee and they will be enough to bring the team back to mediocrity. If anything, the "big shake-up" will be the firing of Clines or something meaningless like that.

I'm sick of listening to a manager who sounds completely defeated after each loss. Dan Bernstein was completely right on the Score today, Baker seems like a guy who believes all these things are happening to him and his players, rather than someone who believes that he and his players can do something to have an impact on the outcome of games. Yes, bad things are happening, so DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!

after further thought, hendry has to admit error if he cans baker, so the cubs will really have to suck to get him canned. it's easier for him to deflect blame if they don't resign him after this year. since hendry's about as stubborn as baker, i don't think the firing will happen.

some good news - a shake ups coming soon.

Kerry Wood.

Wood >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Guzman

That's very true, but it's more of a tremor than a big shakeup. This team needs about a 9 pointer on the Richter Scale.

Hmmm, I think it's like pulling a major trade.

Guzman has great stuff, but just isn't ready. Without Lee, the Cubs almost have no shot of winning when Guzman takes the mound cause the opposition probably gets 5-6 runs off him and the middle relief.

Wood gives them the chance of winning 4-3 or 3-2. At least he can go 6, giving up only 2 runs, and hand it over to Eyre, Howry and Dempster.

Will we ever get some relief? I'd give anything to see a few knee-jerk moves, starting with banishing Baker.

Please somebody help us.

the cubs need divine intervention.

"we altered the space-time continuum and the cubs still haven't won the world series."

maybe not the best plan anymore.
