Is that sarcasm? Weren't the bases loaded? A fielder going for the rundown would make no sense when you have a forceout at second.

No sarcasm. If the fielder has a mental lapse and goes for the tag on the runner between 1st & 2nd rather than getting the force, enough time could pass for the runner to score.

Fair enough. I just think it's a bigger error in judgement to hope the fielder has a mental lapse and goes for the tag allowing a run to score then to hustle to the bag and hope that the shortstop drops the throw allowing the runner to be safe and scoring the run.

I'll believe that is 0-0 Len, these are two of the worst teams offensively in the league. The only way we'll scored is if the Padres start to feel so sorry for us that the starting commiting random errors. This team is pathetic.

Cedeno is good but he also has to compete with Reyes, J.Wilson, and Lopez at SS. Walker has to compete with Phillips and Utley so I don't see that happening either.

Ram so far isn't even looking close to how he was last year. Let's not jump the gun and call everybody potential all-stars because there are better players out there.

Don't forget Kahlil Greene. He's getting better and better. He's jacked 5 HR's already.

please hold them pen.

This might come down to whomever runs out of pitchers first.

Good thing we have seven men in the bullpen.

And Dusty has no problem leaving guys in til their arms end up in the catcher's mitt.

Very dumb managing by the Padres. Intentionally walking Neifi to get to the pitcher made no sense when Z had thrown 107 and was sure to be pulled for a PH. An RHP vs. Neifi was the best situation the Padres could have hoped for.

Baker let Prior throw nearly 130 pitches in his 3rd game of the season last year, IIRC. I thought it was pretty stupid considering he started the season on the DL.

I think Baker would have sent Z back to the hill.

Piror's 3rd start last year was 106 pitches.

You're right, of course. I was thinking he came back around May 12, but it was April 12. Prior threw 126 pitches against the White Sox in a Sunday game near the end of May.

That's correct; in what was his 8th start of the year.

That CG vs the White Sox was on May 22. He was hit by the line drive in his next start on May 27. His return was also against the White Sox (& Garland) during the June 24-25-26 series ... I think the Sunday game, but could be wrong.

Was it a poor decision? It got Zambrano out of the game. And Dusty is known for racking up high pitch counts for his starters.

IMO getting out of the inning with no runs allowed was way more urgent than chasing Z.

At the same time, the Padres have one of the best defenses in baseball, a park that tends to keep balls in play and a struggling offense. There was no guarantee that the Cubs would pull Zambrano, a guy they struggled to hit all night.

If I'm managing the Pads preventing a score is paramount. With a runner on 3rd late in a 0-0 game I'm going to have my RHP pitch to Neifi Perez every time, regardless of whether the opposing pitcher stays in the game or not.

Park has 121 pitches. If he stays in, Bouchy will be doing his Baker impression!

And now you know why they have women giving massages in the dugout!!

I can't believe how bad this offense is. With Peavy on the hill tomorrow, I think it's a pretty good bet that we'll be staring at 3 consecutive shut-outs and at least a 32 consecutive inning scoreless drought (yes, I'm already assuming they lose this one).
