Moises,

I'm sorry I maligned you so when you were here. I used to think you made too many base running blunders and played too lacksidasical. That was until I had to watch Todd Hollandsworth play LF in 2005 and Jacque Jones play rightfield in 2006. Please come back, Moises.

Alou in 2005: 321/400/518

Alou in 2006: 370/424/667

Although I hated his baserunning and shuddered at his fielding, he was our best hitter in 2004, and I couldn't believe the Cubs didn't bring him back, even when he offered a hometown discount.

He's gone on to put up great numbers in San Fran, a tougher park for hitters.

Vance, I'm on board the Moises BandWGN.

The cubs do stupid stuff like this, its really not hard to believe at all. i mean afterall they told Maddux they dont want to spend the money on him back in the early 90s

He was Greg Maddux before Greg Maddux was Greg Maddux. He lived up to his contract only in his walk year.

I'd really like his production, but I don't miss him.

i wouldnt go that far, he produced better than anyone since in 2003

Dear Moises,

Thanks for tanking the first 2 years of your contract. If you wanted a job with an organization as bad as the Cubs, next time consider not being an albatross for 2/3 of your employment.

All the best,

TT

He was a $10m corner OF in 2003, and he did not produce like a $10m corner OF.

He has produced much much more offense than any left fielder since, did you forget the joke that was Todd hollansworth, Jason Dubois among others? i wouldve glady taken his 2005 .321 average, .400 OBP, 19HR and 63 RBIS in 123 games over what we had

Moises Alou's OPS+

1998 - 157 (HOU)

2000 - 151 (HOU)

2001 - 138 (HOU)

2002 - 100 (CHC)

2003 - 113 (CHC)

2004 - 128 (CHC)

2005 - 141 (SFG)

Career - 128

He lived up to his career average OPS+ once in 3 years as a Cub. The other two years he was nothing but average to above average, nowhere near a $10m corner OF.

You know who had a higher OPS+ on the Cubs in 2003? Corey Patterson (116), then Lofton (122). Sammy's 135 carried the offense, even though everybody wants to pretend he was nothing that year. In 2002 the Cubs got more help from Mueller (101) and Bellhorn (133).

I don't deny that he's produced more than Cubs LF since then. But that doesn't change the fact that he was a major disappointment over the course of his contract with the Cubs. Plus, that says more about Jim Hendry's ability to field a quality OF than it does about Alou.

i'll be pleasantly surprised if jacque jones even puts up alou's 2002 line of .275/.337/.419.

So would I, Rocket. So would I.

That's hardly an excuse to sign the praises of Alou.

It's the same as saying back to back .500 seasons is an accomplishment and we should be happy because past Cubs teams didn't do that.

Alou came here and failed to live up to his contract for most of the time. Not only that, he had an abysmal attitude, was incompetent in the field and a joke on the basepaths. Yes, I'd love his production, but nobody can honestly say they knew he'd produce what he produced in 2005.

Remember when we had a 3-4-5 of Sosa, McGriff and Alou and we thought we had it made? . . . man, those were the days (of suckitude, mind you, but it's better than the 3-4-5 we've had the past couple of years).

I wanted Alou brought back after the '04 season, unlike most people. But instead, we got a crappy Hollandsworth/Dubois "platoon" to complement Jeromy Burnitz.

All these reponses and not one mention of Moises pissing on his hands. I'm proud of you guys.

If you mess with Moises, urine trouble!

I don't think it's realistic to expect a GM to bring back an expensive player who tanked 2/3 of his contract and only produced in his walk year. Letting Alou go was what any GM would have done.

I said when Moises left that I didn't care if he hit .400 with 80 HR. There are very few Cubs players that I have ever detested, but Moises was one of the proud. I stand by that statement. I know the Cubs would have been a better team the last two years with Alou out there, but I don't care. I blame Hendry for not finding better options for the OF, but I absolutely applaud the move of letting Alou go.

What's with all the Moises hate?

Moises is not a good person or a good player. He is a cancer in the clubhouse.

And you know its funny, some of the people who "miss him" are the same ones who used to grumble about him grounding out to 3b every ab or all of the DPs he hit into or his terrible fielding.

We dont need this kind of trouble again.
