Aardsma looked less than impressive today also. I wouldn't be suprised to see Aardsma sent down to AAA and Rich Hill brought up. Glendon could move to the long man spot in the bullpen. One thing is for sure, something has to be done about getting Rusch out of the rotation, he was lucky to have only given up as many runs as he did.

I think Wuertz will be be brought back in the place of Aardsma if not for any other reason than to swap out an arm for one that's not going to be able to go for a few days.

I'd also like to see Rusch DFA'ed and Hill brought up.

there's no way they'd DFA rusch. zambrano could get hurt in his next start or guzman/hill could go completely in the toilet. if you dump rusch, then who do you go to? ryu? walrond? marmol?

i'd send aardsma down, and bring up wuertz just so you have a fresh arm out there for the next couple days. then when it comes times for rusch's next start, you send down whoever's pitching the worst b/w wuertz and novoa and bring up hill for the start.

Agreed, my plan too. Ohman to Iowa, Rusch to bullpen, Aardsma to Iowa, Wuertz recall, Hill recall to the rotation. Works for me.

Anything that takes Rusch out of the rotation, including bringing back Rick Reuschel.

we could use rick's bat these days too!

We just need to get Wood and Prior back in the freakin rotation so we don't trot these bums out there every five days.

As of now, our long-term staff looks like (in no order)

Maddux

Zambrano

Marshall

Prior

Wood

Rusch (they won't just dump him...unfortunately)

Eyre

Howry

Williamson

Dempster

Wuertz/Ohman/Novoa/whomever is hot at the moment

With Williams, Hill, the odd-man/men out in the last bullpen slot, and Aardsma in Iowa in case of injury.

I don't think I'd DFA Rusch. He'd make a good inning eater on those days that we suck monkey balls --- it happens to everyone.

My fear would be that Dusty would put him in too many pressure type situations. Maybe, maybe not.

Crap, I don't know. When the big guns come back, Rusch may have to be traded or DFA'd.

Agreed. If used properly, he could be a good innings eating garbage man, but the only problem with that is that there will not be very many situations for him to come in since we wouldn't have him in the rotation anymore.

I'd DFA him - Williams can cover that role.

You also don't have bosses that wouldn't be very happy with you losing 5 million dollars. He isn't going to be DFA'd.

I didn't say he would be - that's just what I would do. You can hope someone claims him. But that would be too much egg on Jim's face.

oh, btw, I am pretty sure I would be fired if I lost 5 million dollars.

Rusch looks like a BP pitcher.

Rich Hill's next start should be with the Cubs. Send Aardsma down and move Rusch to mopup duty.

I would take it a step further. Rusch looks like a homerun contest pitcher. He's on pace to allow 81 homeruns in 162 innings. He has as many homeruns as he does walks (11).

There are plenty of things Rusch is good at eating. However, none of them happen to be inning's right now.

When is Hill's next scheduled start at Iowa?
Tomorrow
Rusch = Estes 03 Sad

Also, rusch 03=Estes 03

I never thought I'd say this, but your disrespecting Estes.

It's even worse with Rusch than some are acknowledging, if you recall, he got pounded all over Arizona in spring training, too. The guy stinks. I wonder if Hendry has yet figured out what we were all griping about in November--that paying $6MM/year the next two years for bona fide stiffs like Neifi and Rusch is a bad idea? Naw, probably not. Jim Hendry loves to spend money on rejects and outcasts, he does it every year. What a waste of resources.

Williams has options, correct? Send down Jerome, bring up Rich Hill. Perhaps bring up Wuertz for Aardsma. Rusch can be the longman/inning eater. Jerome can keep pitching regularly versus AAA hitters and try to get his groove back.

We have reason to hope that Jerome can rebound. So he should be the one to go down and keep starting. Rusch just gets moved to "last guy on the bullpen bench".

Williams is already in AAA.

Realistically I don't think Glendon will be released, given the details of his contract. Innings-eating garbage sucker is probably his destiny. That's actually a useful role, but at $3 mil. per year not so much.

He actually would have been perfect in the long relief role in a game like today's.

It's too bad we don't have a crappy starter other than Rusch to make his bullpen services worthwhile

I say DFA Rusch, take the hit, send down Aardsma, and bring up Williams and Hill.
Williams can't be brought up yet. He was sent down on April 23, and a player must stay down for at least 10 days before being called back up.
