Is there ANY situation where you guys like the sac bunt?

Fast forward the same situation 5 innings.

Why does one run later mean more than one run now? A run is a run; I'll take one in whatever inning I can get it in.

Do you know that there's a better chance of a runner scoring from first with none out than it is for a runner to score from 2nd with 1 out?

I didn't know that. Is that a proven fact?

Yep. The Run Expectancy (Avg. number of runs scored in an inning from a given base-out state) is 0.953 with no outs and a runner on first and 0.725 with one out and a runner on second.

What is it with the wind blowing in from LC at Wrigley?

Because the marlins have 5 innings to get that run back. in the 7 or 8 they have less outs.

but if the Cubs didn't get the run, the Marlins would have had 5 innings to take the lead, I like 1 run lead with our pen + the conditions.

True, the conditions make it more digestable. It still tastes bad but im not vomitting.

I can't beleive some of you guys. We're complaining because of how we got a RUN!!? Yikes!!

The discussion started before the run. YIKES!

Ok not as much YIKES! So I'll add I liked that he bunted considering he was in a slump. .

Ha ha, I just came across this. Did you know the Cubs are shopping Greg Maddux? It's from a Met fan site, so it must be true.

Don't you know that every team is trying to accommodate the Mets needs?

Interesting stuff, I never knew that.

I should say that those numbers are based on data from 1999-2002 when run production was near an all-time high. (Though it's at close to the same levels so far this year.) If the run environment is more restrictive, say the dead ball era or the late '60s, then the gap between those two numbers would likely be much smaller, perhaps even to the point where giving up the out makes sense.

In today's game, however, giving up outs so early in the game is rarely (if ever) a good idea.
