TLR probably laughed his ass off when he saw mabry bat 5.

The same Larussa who thought Juan Encarnacion hitting 2nd was a good idea?

His thought is put him in the 2 hole to give him better pitches with Pujols/Edmonds/Rolen and make him better than what he is. Mabry makes Aramis worse.

I know that was his thought, and "protection" is an idea accepted by most baseball old-timers, but the evidence suggests that the value of protection to a guy like Encarnacion is greatly exaggerated.

There are exceptions or degrees, of course. Would Ramirez see more strikes if Lee were hitting behind him? Probably, but comparing Ramirez to Encarnacion is apples to oranges.

No one is ever going to pitch around Encarnacion whether he hits in front of Pujols or Aaron Miles.

nice and aggressive...just like clines and sarge want.

Ron Santo (reiterating the advice of Sarge and Cliens): "[Murton] is taking too many pitches...."

Just because a guy plays baseball doesn't mean he knows the best way to play - or what works best for a different type of player.

Hawk Harrelson is exhibit A.

That's ok, I didn't want Glendon to get an out this inning, I'd prefer he do it to lead off next inning...

When it comes to bad things one can say or do in the press box as a broadcaster, I'd say Hawk is exhibits A-X.

Today could be the day he gets his first stolen base.

Glendon will homer in his first AB! Would have been nice to have had a guy or two on base for it.

Usually Santo is always advocating more patience. I suspect he is being deferential to Clines/Mathews.
