Fire up the bus! He's got pop and he can play first (although not as well as DLEE, but really, thats asking a lot). He was mired on the buccos bench two weeks ago before he got his power back. If the Baby Bears can get their hands on him, we ought to be able to shift him to right if/when Jones continues to suck.

John Mabry's elbow made Craig Wilson unavailable.

The Bucs have Eldred waiting too, so they wouldn't be creating a hole if they wanted to trade Wilson. Might be worthwhile since he's a FA to be and Tracy doesn't seem like him all that much.

Can't see this one happening. I know Pittsburgh is pretty bad right now, but I don't see them trading Wilson within the division, especially to the Cubs.

I'd look at Carlos Pena, Tony Clark, Robb Quinlan, and Eduardo Perez or Ben Broussard from Cleveland.

Broussard is the only guy on the list with upside, and would be the best yet most expensive option.

Quinlan and Perez can play mulitple positions. Quinlan is interesting. He absolutely murders LH pitching (.322 /.371/.542 3-year splits), he'd be the perfect compliment to Mabry off the bench when Lee gets back too.

Quinlan would be great. When Lee comes back, Quinlan would provide a good RH bat off the bench, and he's capable of playing 3B and OF if needed.

I don't think that Broussard would be that expensive.

Garko isn't that far away. I know he is a righty like Perez, but I do think that Broussard is going to get nudged out of the DH/1B there eventually.

yeah, you may be right. Hafner's 100% and they are looking to get him in the field more. The Indians still have Perez and they could put Hollandsworth there at times. Also, they have some flexibility with Dubois (who could push Holla to a 1B platoon), Marte (who could push A. Boone to 1B) or like you said Garko could play there.

Why would a division rival bail us out of a huge hole?

Because they don't really like Wilson, and can take advantage of an opportunity to get something for him before he leaves for Free Agency.

But that would cripple their chances at winning the division!! :o

They did it in 2003.

Not exactly. We bailed them out of one, so to speak. They were in danger of not being able to make payroll at some point DURING THE SEASON. They wanted to trade Kris Benson's 6 mil salary but couldn't because he got hurt, so they had to trade Aramis.

2003 was a firesale. Aramis wasn't even supposed to leave until the dude they were going to trade went on the DL. The pirates were forced into trading Aramis. We just happened to be there with money to spend and a 3B hole to fill. They were also well out of the race at that time. That's not the case here.

What does 2003 have in common with 2006 as far as the Pirates are concerned? Next to nothing that I see.

Aramis could have been dealt elsewhere. Any number of contenders would have taken him if the Pirates were so desperate to unload salary. Instead, we had a rather large hole at 3B and the Pirates let us fill it.

what teams had a hole at 3B and money to burn at that time in the season?

Exactly. While I understand and acknowledge the Aramis could have gone elsewhere, there wasn't exactly a line forming. Bottom line is that Littlefield isn't giving Wilson away this early and certainly isn't going to do so to a team that he still has to play 14 more times.

I'm not saying the situations are the same. You asked why they would, I answered that they did in 2003. We had a huge hole, Aramis filled it.

Before Sean Casey's spine exploded Wilson was begging to get into the lineup and Jim Tracy was reluctant to pencil him in (despite Wilson hitting like 3 homers per at -bat). Now with Casey on the shelf Wilson is suddenly way more valuable and harder to get.

I don't think we will be able to get Wilson now that Casey is hurt, but he would be the perfect fit at 1B now and later as a platoon RF.

I don't see why they can't get Wilson because of Casey's health. Pittsburgh is already in the dumpster. Wilson is hardly the centerpiece of that franchise, and is probably gone come free agency anyway. Give 'em Sing to play 1B for now, and an arm, save them a few bucks.

Agreed. This seems like a doable deal for a player that could help us a lot this year.
