I don't think we will be able to get Wilson now that Casey is hurt, but he would be the perfect fit at 1B now and later as a platoon RF.

I don't see why they can't get Wilson because of Casey's health. Pittsburgh is already in the dumpster. Wilson is hardly the centerpiece of that franchise, and is probably gone come free agency anyway. Give 'em Sing to play 1B for now, and an arm, save them a few bucks.

Agreed. This seems like a doable deal for a player that could help us a lot this year.

Shouldn't have waited until Casey got hurt in the first place. You go out and sign a RF who can't hit lefties. You have a rookie in LF. You have 0 RH power on your roster. Wilson was a no-brainer type of move 3 months ago.

Yeah, I don't know where Hendry was on that one. Did the Pirates actually think they would compete with the "big" signings of veterans like Burnitz, Randa and Casey along with the hiring of Tracy?

I've always liked Roberto Petegine. He's on Seattle now...good OBP/power guy. He's never really gotten a chance to play. He probably wouldn't cost much at all, and might be a good fill in. Actually, I like Eduardo Perez too, especially against lefties.

I like Tony Clark if available. 1M in salary and is currently a bench player who, if he performs anywhere near last year, could really help take over some of the lost production.

I want to hop on this bandWGN. I think Craig Wilson would be a realistic option for 1b for a while, and could play RF when Lee comes back. Jones just isn't cutting it. I'd love to have Cabrera, Dunn, Abreu, etc., but I just don't think those are realistic.

i think this is the most realistic deal possible right now. i like it, and immediately thought of wilson when i found out that lee would be out 2-3 months.

what's better is that wilson can be platooned in right after lee comes back.

the jaqcue jones deal, as expected, is looking more and more like the christian guzman deal. great job, jim. way to ignore plate discipline for the sake of some imagined tools-theory, but i digress.

trade for wilson and i'll feel better, there's no way this team can make it without a decent power/OBP bat at first until late june.

he also looks quite a bit like lee. maybe some casual fans wouldn't notice the difference.

I think that the Pirates would be interested in Hill. Many might think that it would be overpaying but I doubt it. Hill has value right now and likely won't have as much at the end of the season due to age and Marshall's sucess. I think giving Hill up for Wilson would be a fair deal for both sides.

What would be nice is Hill and Perez for Wilson and Sanchez but that is a pipe dream.

The Pirates would then potentially have the lefthandedest rotation ever.

From the New Jersey Star Ledger

That the Cubs, in their efforts to replace injured first baseman Derrek Lee, have discussed a run at the Royals' Mike Sweeney. Problem is, the oft-injured Sweeney doesn't look like much of a hitter right now, and might be too fragile to play the field every day. Chicago also likes Pittsburgh's Craig Wilson, but the Pirates can't move him while Sean Casey is on the DL.
