why is everyone assuming the cubs are going to make a deal? it's going to be neifi and 2b and walker at 1b (and a really, really bad offense).

yeah i agree, i really don't think Hendry is going to make a deal for a guy that will only play 2 months before going to the bench. I fear that I'll see way too much Neifi in the next 2 months...

this really sucks. a lot.

this is why you get at least one power bat for your bench, and not a bunch of utility guys like macias, bynum, neifi, and hairston that can \:D/ play a lot of positions \:D/

people said that having a weak bench wasn't that big of a deal, but it is now.

Indeed. This is like the Titanic hitting the iceburg. The one thing that couldn't happen, happened.

I really don't think this will increase Neifi's PT, b/c I really doubt that JH sees Walk as a long-term option at 1B. I could be wrong. I'd like to see them bring up Sing.

Florida has more needs though. Pie is premium, young talent IMO. With all the big teams looking for pitching, imagine would Florida could get for Prior once he gets rolling? I think you add that to Pie and it would be a better package that they could get from anyone else for Cabrera.

Prior has started 48 games over the last two years. He's missed a lot of starts. Maybe around 16 or so? Miguel Cabrera has missed a grand total of 6 games over the last two years.

Prospect-wise, Hanley and Pie are right around the same (top 20-30 prospect in the game), but Cabrera is Pujols II... while Prior certainly has that type of potential (to be one of the best players of this era), he is way too big of a question mark.

I really don't think the Cubs have what it takes to get Cabrera. You're looking at a team like the Diamondbacks or the Angels with absolutely loaded systems if you wanna see a team make a run at Miguel.

What about Prior and Guzman or Hill for Teixeira? Would Texas go for it?

i do like Brandon and he had a great ST, but he has struggled so far in AAA. I think promoting him to the big league club would be a bit too soon IMO.

i hope you are right about Neifi's PT.

Too bad we can't get Seung Yeop Lee or some Cuban defector.

There ought to be a decent 1B we can dig up somewhere.

what are we going to do when Lee comes back? It's not like he has a career ending injury.

Tex can play outfield and we need one anyway. He won't win any gold gloves but he'll pass.

Tough to say.

They are in the market for pitching, obviously, but Texiera is one of the best young htiters in the game.

For reference: ESPN recently ran the "top 100 most valuable players" list recently. It takes into consideration age and whatnot. Texiera was the 7th-most valuable player in the league. I don't think that Prior cracked the list at all (top 100 players).

Zambrano was 11th.

And, obviously, take this with a grain of salt.. I'm just saying that Texiera is going to take... a lot.

You know, I don't necessarily need the Cubs to win it all-I've come to accept that it probably just won't happen. But is it too much to ask for one year...ONE YEAR...that I don't absolutely get my heart ripped out by this team?

Pie and Murton for Cabrera?

Cabrera was going to cost more than we could have given BEFORE Lee went down. What makes you think thhat now that Lee is hurt, his cost would be equal?

Also, Cabrera can't play 1B. He's a 3B.

We can put a stop to trade rumors.

"We'll make a decision [late Thursday] on who we want to add to the roster in an in-house move," Hendry said. "You're not going to replace Derrek Lee in any kind of trade in April. You're probably not going to replace him anytime in a trade as hard as you might try."

I think the player the Cubs should be targeting is a guy who can play other positions besides 1st. When Lee comes back, that player needs to be able to do something other than just pinch hit since Lee pretty much plays everyday.

His proposal is too light, but Cabrera plays 3B, Ramirez 1B, then Cabrera moves to RF.

I could see the Cubs keeping Walker and Mabry at first and looking to add some pop at 2nd with a Soriano.....

Not in favor of the idea, but that could be another possible direction.

Right now I'm a Ramirez back spasm from needing therapy.

Translation:

"We're going to get ripped off if we try and trade for a guy 2 weeks into the season when teams know we are in a dire situation, so we'll sit tight until we know how long he's out.

Pie and Murton for Cabrera?

Red Sox essentially gave up Anibal Sanchez (their 5th-best prospect), Hanley Ramirez (a Pie-esque prospect), and also Jesus Delgado and Harvey Garcia -- both low A prospects. Delgado had a lot of potential. Garcia had a very good fastball (96 MPH).

Now, you say, "the Sox got Mota and Lowell, too!" Right? Well, those guys have negative trade value. They made a lot and they were horrendous in 2005.

So you figure the Sox gave up all of that for oft-injured Josh Beckett. What do you think they'd want for Miguel Cabrera, arguably the most valuable player in the game?

When has Ramirez ever played 1B? It's not like he's a utility guy or something.
