There are at least two billboards in StL that say "You're in the home of baseball's best fans" or something like that. They're for FOX. I crack up every time see them. So lame.

Why is it lame, though. I think that EVERY town should claim to have the best fans. It's like Chicago saying "we have the best pizza". Obviously there's nothing to document that, but I don't have a problem with them saying it....... I wouldn't argue with them!

It's similar to Detroit and "Hockeytown".

I can't stand that...., and the Packers' fans referring to Green Bay as "Titletown, USA".

To be fair...you guys have "Chitown"....and I hear Chickletsville is pretty annoyed about that.

Yeah, there are billboards here that say Miller Lite is "Chicago's Beer"

Putting it in print don't make it true.

Exactly. We all know how much Miller Lite sucks.

I just found Burrell's article interesting and ironic given all the abuse Wrigley bleacher fans took on Card Talk last week from Cards fans (some who post on NSBB) who attended the games at Wrigley.

I agree that claiming one fan group is "greater" than another is a difficult case to prove and an exercise in futility.

The best fans in baseball are not confined to one city or fan-base. They are everywhere.

JMHO

Edit - same thing with the worse fans.

That kind of stuff happens everyday in the bleachers at Wrigley. (or at least the many times I've sat there)

Far worse.

First of all, chicago DOES have the best pizza in the world. A triple blind taste test performed by me proved it...undeniably.

Why is it lame? I don't know. It just is. Partly because so many St. Louisians really believe it and talk about it. Go over to cards talk for proof. They're constantly talking about TBBFIA, BBBF, TBBFIAAOUST. Now they've got billboards. Outside of NY, I can't think of another American city that toots its own horn more than StL. And that's weird, because there's really not much to crow about.

For the record, though, a billboard like that would be lame in any town, not just StL.

Please don't judge Cardinal fans by going to Cards Talk.

Please.

And Jake,

You were one of the people I thought of when I said every team has the best fans in baseball.

If this statement shows up over there, attributed to you, they will skewer you, thereby proving your point. Oh, the irony of it all.....

Eh.......it's just a promotional thing (like the pizza). Nothing more. Indiana claims to be "the crossroads of America" on their billboards. Maine claims to be "The Way Life Should Be".

You've got that sort of thing everywhere....... not just St. Louis.

Well, for the record... according to Mike Shannon, St. Louis has PROVEN year after year that they are TBFIB.

Not my words...his.

Although, Mike Shannon has also said...

"I wish you folks back in St. Louis could see this moon."

"Well, he did everything right to get ready for the throw, but if ya ain't got the hose, the water just won't come out."

"Our next homestand follows this road trip."

"I've heard it said that if you know English, Spanish, Italian, and I think it's French, you can go just about anywhere in this world...except China where they have all those derelicts."

I've moved on to greener pastures. There is a new Cardinal board that actually talks Baseball!

Imagine that.

The Best Fans In Baseball deserve that ;)

Reminds me of that time Santo said

".......BLAHHH .......GAAA NOOOOOOOOOOO...... Ohhh Man..."

which might represent one of Ronnie's more coherent moments ... you can actually find "man" in the dictionary.

If nothing else, he is entertaining.

Shannon is awesome.

They're both the torch bearers for their teams. Never a question that they live for the Cards or Cubs.

Ron is of course entertaining, but without Pat to reign him in on occasion, he'd be a horrible mess of a broadcaster (if he isn't already). Pat Hughes is fantastic.
