Reds have cheerleaders?

The Reds have cheerleaders, according to the CINCINNATI INQUIRER. "I think it's a great idea," left fielder Adam Dunn said. "It gets the fans into (the game) and gives us something to look at."

The new MDX Reds Crew, all-female cheerleading and dance troupe sponsored by Mountain Dew's new energy soda, formed this spring.

About 30 hopefuls auditioned last month for 12 spots. The majority of those selected have cheered or danced competitively at the professional or collegiate levels.

"It's the kind of thing we hope takes off and continues to be a positive and uplifting thing," said Phil Castellini, senior director of ballpark operations for the Reds.

"I think it's a fun, healthy, energetic addition to an already fun venue. We think the possibilities are endless."

It is sad. They must think they'll help distract people from the lack of pitching.

I have no problem with the concept at all.

But I do think they should start to provide lap dances to patrons seated in the club level.

It's bush league...no pun intended.. really

A team like the reds, especially, are above this

It would have been better if the pun was intended! :smokin:

IF Marge Schott were still alive, he would never stand for this!

That was my comment upon seeing them in person at the Rusch game. It's a big change for a team that once banned facial hair.

I still think we need to bring the eye-candy ballgirl concept back to Wrigley.

I fail to see how it is unclassy or pathetic. I'd be opposed to this type of thing at Wrigley, but it's hardly pathetic or classless.

EDIT: Oh, and those are some ugly cheerleaders. I see just one cute one, and she has some huge arms. Gross.

When did Marge have a sex change operation? :D

A sex change operation for Marge Schott would have resulted in "she". :P

That's the joke, mon ami. ;)

I agree. I wouldn't necessarily want them at Wrigley, but if the Reds think it will help the team and bring more fans in, more power to the Reds.

This is the best spot they could find for the group photo? At the receiving dock wedged between an SUV and the fence? Looks like they are really running a first class operation there!

I second this entire post. Exactly what I was thinking.

I fail to see the problem with combining two of my favorite things; hot chix 4 free and baseball. I can think of two Reds in particular who are going to turn these ladiezzz into their personal booty calls (hint - they are in Rocket's sig).

Does anyone take kids to the ballpark? Is it a family experience? Go to the strip club w/o your kids.

The cheerleaders are going to be stripping? If so, then that is a definite problem.

If not, then I don't see the problem. Cheerleaders don't affect the "family" atmosphere in the NFL, college football, college basketball, etc.

This seems like quite an overreaction. I have two kids and wouldn't even think twice about taking them to a sporting event with cheerleaders. Am I missing something?
