He's not just getting out, compared to the rest of the team he looks terrible at this point. I can see why people are booing him.

Doesn't help him that the rest of the team is off to a pretty good start with the bats.

It okay to BOO Latroy Hawkins, Kent Mercker, and Corey Patterson. We have to wait till at least early June to start booing Jones.

I don't know, if the team is winning, it's not the worst thing to have a proven guy struggling in those wins when others are hot so he can take over when they cool down.

Do you want Hendry to make decisions based on fan emotion?

In most cases, no. But most fans wont start actively booing a player until it's gotten so bad that it's beyond a doubt they aren't earning their keep. Granted some fans are spoiled rotten and would boo the likes of ARod, but most will wait for the fruitless flailing of Corey Patterson before letting the boo birds out.

In those cases, I think fan emotion speaks wonders for what needs to be done.

It's also the easiest way to make us look like a bunch of petulant, whiny, a-holes. The guy has had 12 ABs. 12. Booing him now is ignorant.

I'm sorry, was I implying I've been booing the man? I don't recall saying it, but I may have misled you unintenionally.

I'm not booing Jacque Jones. I can just see why people are.

I just don't see how booing helps the team in any way. What are the goals for the people booing? To show THEIR frustration with the player. The player is doing his best and now he has to deal with the boos too. Baseball is such a mentally demanding game and booing just adds to the failure and IMO never helps make the situation better. If you really want to show you're upset with how the team is doing, don't go. That will effect the teams money situation and that's when it really hurts management/owners.

No, I wasn't under the impression you've been booing. I wrote that in reference to the booers.

Living in Atlanta, and seeing a fair share of Braves games, I see the booing issue on a little different level.

You see, Chicago is one of the few baseball crazy towns that will embrace a player so tightly when they do well. Thus, on the opposite end, when they fail, they are given exponentially bad treatment. Basically, if you want to come to Chicago and have a chance at being a part of history and a chance to experience a baseball crazy town, you have to be ready to accept the fact that failure is not tollerated by the common fan.

For every Ryne Sandberg, there has to be a Latroy Hawkins.

If Jacque Jones wasn't expecting to get booed after striking out the third time in 3 at-bats to continue his 0-whatever, then he didn't do his research before he accepted his millions. THAT, my friends, is ignorance.

My view is that the second part of that statement wasn't true before 2003. Prior to that fans were more supportive of players who weren't producing. I couldn't imagine LaTroy or Corey or Jacque getting the degree of boos they got before 2003. I'm not sure if after 2003 the expectation for success are much higher, or if that season brought in new group of fans, or something else, but the change is noticable.

Snoodmonger said that booing was the easiest way to make us look like whiny a-holes. I completely agree, and since 2003 it looks like we're inching toward that direction.

I think it's just overall frustration with the franchise vented toward one player.

When I watched Cub games as a kid, I NEVER, not a single time heard the fans boo an individual player. A few times if the team really stunk up the place, there would be a general boo directed at the team. Even that was rare.

Now, since about 2001 or so, since the current generation of fans got a taste of winning, they expect it. They're sick of seeing losers, and I can't say I blame them. They see a team with a $100 million payroll going 79-83 and expect better. They're sick of seeing mediocre players get bloated contracts to be terrible.

If enough fans would vote with their wallet, then you'd see payroll cut, and it would give the Tribune an opportunity to be cheap again. If you boo, you voice your displeasure.

I think this can all be solved and work for both groups. Booers and non Booers. (sounds funny  )

Do not boo Jones. If the Cubs win, let him struggle and come into his own. When the Cubs loose, everybody should boo real loud after the final out. Boo at the TEAM!! That way you're letting the team know (and in turn Jim Hendry and the Tribune) that they are expected to win.

I think we need Lee Elia to weigh in on whether booing is okay.

The best rant ever! One can almost hear the spit flying out of his mouth.
