I noticed a few things from today's broadcast.

During the Dusty Baker show, Dusty was giving the lineups and he said "batting seventh is "Young" Murton and batting eighth is "Young" Ronny Cedeno." Did they both change their first names?

Also, did anyone notice in the first that Ronnie was getting on Walker for not scoring on the basehit (clearly he isn't a big TWalk fan) , but then had no problem making excuses for Ramirez getting doubled off.

Ronnie was on Walker, or Baker was on Walker?

Edit: Oh, I see. Ronnie = Santo

I try to ignore Ron Santo. He is the worst analyst that I can recall. He contributes nothing of substance.

I noticed those "Young" comments. They made me ill. Dusty you can keep on saying I never had any young players before. To bad it's not believable.

But he's so passionate about the Cubs, you can't help but love him.

I think you guys are analyzing FAR too much into those comments.

Why must most everything Baker says be spun in the most negative light possible?

Because nobody likes Baker, and he's a moron.

Because after listening to and watching him over the past 3+ years, most of us have learned that the most negative possible interpretation of his words and actions is most often the correct one.

Having said that, I read nothing into his "young" comments.

Blashemer! Santo was unusally good today. He was on top of the analysis of the game, peppering things with his usual Cub blue blood.

If you listen to Santo for cogent analysis you are listening to the wrong guy. However, IMO his is great. He is us in the booth and I love him.

Ron Santo may be you in the booth, but he is NOT me. He's awful, and I can't stand listening to him.

I'm sure you lose track of what you're saying from time to time. Ron Santo just concentrates the frequency of those moments to, say, once every ten or twelve minutes

He isnt the best at analysing a game, but he is the most entertaining to listen to. I use to put WGN on mute (back when Chip was announcing) and listen to Santo call the game while watching it. I can see your point though if radio is your only means to watch it then you dont always know whats going on...but you gotta love his enthusiasm.

I just think that Santo represents a lot of misconceptions about Cubs fans. He's very rah-rah and silly, he's pretty uninformed and doesn't seem to really pay attention to the game at points. That's the stereotypical view of Cubs fan and Ron just isn't helping us shed that image at all.

He's been a nice story for the organization -- and I think he was a great player and is still a great guy -- but I just don't want to listen to him during broadcasts. I want better and think we deserve better.

I find it strange, too.

There are a lot of valid reasons to not like Dusty as a manager, but the way some of his most benign statements get twisted into yet another reason to hate him just makes me laugh.

That's funny on perceptions -- I actually thought Santo was tougher than he usually is on Ramirez, mainly because Santo was so disappointed the Cubs hadn't scored more runs at that point (just before Young Murton's HR). Santo does have a soft spot for Ramirez, but he always seemed to try to adopt the new Cubs 3rdbaseman and then be sad when they didn't work out. Having Ramirez around is a big relief for him.

I completely understand how some people can't stand Santo as a radio guy. I like him ... but a lot of that is because of Pat Hughes. I don't see how it would work with anyone else.

Oh he's like the vast majority of ALL baseball fans. He just wants his team to win. Really.....isnt that what we all want? At this point I dont care how they do it....or how "informed" anyone is or is not....I just want the Cubs to win.......for the love of God......just let the Cubs win.....for a change.

Normally I hate three man booths, but I think the radio team would greatly benefit from a real color man in with Hughes and the cheerleader. I don't care if its blasphemy: Ron Santo is a horrible broadcaster. He is painful to listen to and if it wasn't for Pat Hughes, there'd be a whole lot of people not listening.

What does Ron Santo have to do with the Cubs winning? Of course I want the Cubs to win. I'd also like to be able to listen to a broadcast and find out how they won -- not listen to him read faxes from 87-year-old women and talk about a volleyball court in his dead buddy's backyard.

I'm not a fan of Santo the analyst. I think he's a good guy, and mildly entertaining in shorts bursts. But considering how little he adds to the broadcast, I think it would be great to add a 3rd man to actually provide some detail, and to keep the conversation on baseball, instead of going off on tangents that leave the listener high and dry when the radio is their only means of following the game. Plus, the Grim Reaper has been following Ronny around for quite a while, it might be nice to groom somebody into the role.

I love listening to Ron and Pat broadcast games. If you're looking for in depth analysis of the game, then you're obviously not gonna get that from Ron. But I get a kick out of listening to them, and they make the games extremely enjoyable to listen to. Plus, I like that Ron wears his heart on his sleave. I like the fact that he gets even more over Cubs losses than I do.
