I would love to see the Cards try to get this guy to play left this year and eventually takeover for Edmonds in center. What do u guys think it would take to get him from the Nats?

Some toolsy OF who can't get on base or a pitcher who can throw 100 mph with no control.

Bowden is an idiot. There is no reason Church should not only be on the big league roster, he should be starting.

This is the same guy that traded BWilk and Sledge for Soriano.

That's what I thought when I picked him up in my fantasy league off the waiver wire last week. Just like that, he's gone.

Brandon Watson outplayed Church this spring and deserved to start. Church was sent to the minors rather than other players because he has options left and really needs the at bats to find his hitting stroke. Church was hitting .200 with one double and one homer in 55 at bats. Watson was hitting .311 with a .368 on-base percentage and had 7 steals in 8 attempts.

But why should Church have had to prove himself this spring? His major league track record shoudl weigh more than spring at bats. Church's spring numbers look eerily similar to spring stats that Ryno and Bagwell used to put up during the spring in their primes.

Teams place way too much emphasis on the at bats a player gets in the spring when he is trying to get himself into shape.

OUCH:

"Shocked. Only word I can say. That's it: shocked," Church said. General manager Jim Bowden said Tuesday's decision came down to Watson having a better spring than Church. Though Church said: "I didn't think I was in a competition."

Church doesn't have nearly enough major league experience to be considered a lock. Watson looks like he might bring as much or more (speed) to the table, so I wouldn't fault the Nationals in starting Watson. There's nothing preventing them from recalling Church is Watson doesn't work out. Church will have time rediscover his stroke at AAA.

Yeah , i hate when beane ripped us off giving us Mike Barratt. Coach L Dont deal with him .

If the trade is for Freddie Bynum it doesn't matter who we're dealing with. We'd be getting ripped off.

South side. im just joshin, I dont think Hendry has failed on to many trades. Im not big either way on a bynum move. Beane is actually a good partner for a guy like hendry, they both are willing to be creative in trades. coach L

Church: .287 .353 .466

Watson: .175 .250 .325 with 0 SB and 2 CS btw for his supposed speed advantage.(Small sample size)

Just a horrible, horrible move.

Watson only had 40 at bats and Church was rather awful after the break.

I'm not sure that you could categorize this move as a "horrible, horrible" one just yet.

If there is one player who said ask for a trade, it should be Church. I could see Bowden trading Church to the Cards for Marquis, or some other Cards scrub.

Shhhhhhhhhh! Don't give him any ideas...
