Sullivan included Williams as a bullpen pitcher in one of his latest articles. Not that it necessarily means much, but everything points to Marshall getting that 4th spot.

The rotation should go like this:

@ CIN

Zambrano

Rusch

vs. STL

Maddux

Marshall

Zambrano

vs. CIN

Rusch

Maddux

Marshall

@ PIT

Zambrano

Guzman/Hill

Rusch

@ LAD

Maddux

Marshall

Zambrano

If the Cubs manage to go 7-7 during that stretch I will be ecstatic. My worry is that the clock has struck 12 for Glendon "[expletive]" Rusch.

That's 8 games against horrible teams, I'd be disappointed with a .500 record.

Bruce is verifying (in the Game thread) the report that Marshall is slated as the the 4th starter. :D

So maybe the inside the ivy guys can get it right once in awhile.

In which three are pitched by Rusch. Cincinnatii can hit the balll and Z doesn't go against them the second time around. I am hoping Maddux's spring numbers are indicative of a rebound but the margin of error is slim.

crap. I refuse to go to the Sunday game here in Pitt then. I'm gonna go Friday/Saturday instead of Sat/Sun.

i really think this is going to be the year we run zambrano into the ground. there's no reason to refuse to give him extended rest in april. none.

If he's handled properly when he's pitching, and between outings, I don't think extended rest in April is a necessity, or all that beneficial.

Agree, we should go with a 5 man rotation from the start, using Williams and Marshall.

When is Marshall added to the 25 man/40 man?

I want to add him to my fantasy league, but he's not listed as an available player on fantasysports.yahoo.com

He already was added to the 40 man to avoid the Rule V Draft, as I recall.

Your recollection is correct.

No reason? You mean outside of the most important reason: winning?

Well then, when are 25 man opening rosters typically finalized (i.e Miller placed on the DL, Marshall added) so I can claim him!!!

Is he that good really or no? Cause him at 4 our pitching staff is ridiculous.

1) My team sucks

2) I'm in an NL-only league so pickin's are slim

3) I want to take him and stash him on my bench in case he turns into a stud.

While I love Marshall, having him as the #4 starter might just be way too freaking aggressive.

54 IP above A ball? He's not Mark Prior.

Does the number he's at matter after a few weeks?

Yup. It means a few more innings as Prior, Wood, and Miller show up (hopefully). I doubt they return at the same time.

Well when they come back, if he's struggling, they can sub him out. It doesn't matter that he's "#4", that's in name only.

WOW, just realized Marshall has 44 starts, only a few at AA and none above, this will be at Wrigley Field against your teams #1 rival, on primetime national tv, and he'll be facing..... 2005 Cy Young winner Chris Carpentar

(i'm assuming that since it will be the Cards 6th game.)

And I'll be there in section 205 to witness it...

I know there hasn't been alot of Cubs baseball on TV this spring, so I don't know how much others have seen him pitch, but the inning or two I caught of Marshall, my first impression was 'this guy is going to throw his arm out.' he has a slow leg kick, then rushes so his arm catches up with the rest of his body. not good mechanics at all.

I am one that always hopes a prospect pans out and becomes a lasting member of the team, but with Marshall, I hope he dominates until Prior/Wood/Miller are back, send him down and let him dominate the minors, then trade him.

he already has an arm injury under his belt, and his delivery, while deceptive, will lead to more arm problems if not corrected. this is the guy you trade when his value is highest.
