There are arguments both pro and con for all three.

I left The Riot off the list since he's an infielder and that's a different discussion.

Wow Vejay Sing?

and a Pagan

How about the true star Augie Ojeda probably one of the capacino makers the Cubs ever had. Dusty needs him, and he is my personal favorite.

who is that real speedster?

Pagan can be a nice 25th man, adding speed off the bench late in games. But Sing would bring far more value and should be added first. I would like both. Sing would be the main guy to platoon with Jones.

Blanco

Perez

Hairston

Mabry

Sing

Pagan

If Walker is traded then move Hairston to 2B and bring Theriot to the bench.

While I'd like to see both Sing and Pagan added, Sing would be a right handed power bat on the bench. That is something we lack and need more than Pagan's ability to play all the OF positions and his speed.

Sing is worthless against lefties, so he wouldn't make a good platoon partner with Jones. And I don't see where he'd get any other playing time. I voted for Grissom, but I'm not opposed to Pagan making the team.

What evidence do we have about Sing being worthless against lefties?

I can't find his splits for last year, but he hit just .202 and had an OBP under .300 against lefties in '04.

As of 9-2-05, Brandon was hitting .279 (39/140) with a .521 SLG and .385 OBP against lefties. He had 8 HRs, 26 RBI, 26 walks, 32 K's.

Against righties as of 9-2 Brandon was hitting .280 (73-261) with a .559 SLG and ..416 OBP. He had 18 HRs, 45 RBI, 63 walks, 74 K's.

It's from some stat sheets I picked up in Jackson from the press room.

Sing, sing a song

Sing out loud

Sing out strong

Sing of good things not bad

Sing of happy not sad

Sing, sing a song

Make it simple to last

Your whole life long

Don't worry that it's not

Good enough for anyone

Else to hear

Just sing, sing a song

I think Pagan could be a great addition to the team, and I'm rooting for him strongly. Great pickup by Hendry.

Hah, I'm one of the three that voted for Grissom.

IMO, Sing needs time in AAA. He was productive in AA, but he still has some major holes in his swing that need to be closed. A part time role in the majors would be a huge adjustment for him. I think he'd end up with a worse-than-Dubois type performance. I'd like to see him get another season in with Joshua and be available to fill a full-time role in case of injury.

I'm apt to judge Pagan by the entire history of his minor league performance as opposed to the two decent weeks he's had in camp. A few weeks ago, many here were complaining about him taking playing time away from prospects at Iowa. So I guess I'm questioning the decision to put him on the major league roster.

Which leaves Marquis.

Even though he wasn't an option, would you rather have Grissom or Restovich?

I'd probably rather have Restovich. Although Grissom really isn't a bad option -- if he actually has anything left in the tank.

From an organizational standpoint I'd rather take my chances that the younger Sing or Pagan improve and contribute given the opportunity than I would take the chance that Grissom isn't washed up. And given our manager's inability to see when a player is washed up, having Grissom break camp means he's on the roster until he gets hurt or until August.

So I'd take either Sing or Pagan, but only because I think Grissom is washed up.

How could I have forgotten Restovich? :-k

Is it just me or has he gotten no buzz at all this ST?
