....Goony actually posted a pic in his sig?!?

Just for that I'm taking Eddie away.

In light of your historic avoidance of avatar and signature pics in the fear that it will divulge your true identity and somehow provide GPS coordinates to your exact location, I found it more shocking than the idea that Paula Abdul's stunt double has been using performance enhancers.

Of course, there was the alternative theory floated by Abuck that you were too technologically challenged to figure out how to use the image function, but adherence to that idea would have forced me to give Abuck a scintilla of credibility.

ABUCK might have been right.

Most of the players on the Giants as well as their front office people knew about Bonds's routine. The same goes for the rest of the teams for the past decade. Players didn't talk because they would be considered snitches and would be alienated. Front office guys didn't talk because they would get fired or in the higher up's case, the players were making the owners more money by bringing more people to the ballpark. MLB didn't do anything because they needed to get people interested in baseball again following the 1994 strike.

If you have a chance, read "Juicing the Game" by Howard Bryant. It isn't solely about steroids and it is an excellent book. I highly recommend it. It isn't just the players who are at fault for the steroid scandal.

This is probably the reason why the Players Association/MLB agreed to the World games. They knew they were going to take a hit big time and are trying to get some good publicity before the you know what hits the fan.

All the players in the WBC are subject to Olympic(read: very very strict) testing policies, IIRC. I wonder if some of the dropouts from the classic are due to players using substances(not necessarily a negative connotation) permitted by the MLB, but would be found illegal by the much more rigid standards.

If Pete Rose received a lifetime ban for gambling, then Barry should receive ten. I don't care HOW good he was before he took the roids his actions are irreprehensible. IMO, this means no Cooperstown, no jersey retirement, no anything.

Simply put, Barry Bonds is a disease to the human race. He's an ahole, a cheater, a liar, and a downright disgraceful citizen. Playing in the MLB is a privelage, not a right, and for him to have a consistent disregard to the fans, the integrity of the game, and a sense of truth is downright. I CAN'T believe anyone actually rooted for this guy.

And you know what the worst part is? There will still be tons of Giants fans that will try to defend him by saying "he still never tested positive" just because they know he is the only reason they have a chance of making the postseason. And I live in northern California so I'll have to hear all of it.

If Anderson gave Bonds all that stuff without Bonds knowing then why hasn't Bonds sued the heck out of Anderson? Bonds knows that Anderson would tell the truth and Bonds would look even more foolish. Bonds cares too much about his body to take stuff without his knowing about them. I can't believe Conte squealed so easily when the FEDS found out BALCO. I guess he knew he had no chance. But you think they would have covered their tracks a little more.

On a side note, I heard a 6 minute interview with Dusty today on the SCORE. George Offman did a nice job of throwing some tough questions to Dusty. Dusty said he has never seen steroids before and thought that Bonds just had worked out extra hard before. He also said that it was Giants management that let Anderson in the clubhouse. The Giants didn't want to expose the Bonds steroid situation right before the opeing of their new park. But Dusty continues to evade questions. He had to know something was going on with Bonds. He did. He just diddn't to find out what it was. And maybe it wasn't his place, btu he had to know something illegal was happening. Bruce Miles, I love your work, but it sounded like you were trying to help Dusty out by saying something like "Dusty do you ever get tired of these questions..." Dusty should start coming clean cause he is only going to look even mroe worse when it all really comes out.

Still, MLB does not test for HGH.

Unfortunately, steroids weren't against the rules when he was reportedly taking them, so it's hard to justify such a ban for a guy that technically didn't break a rule. The gambling rule was longstanding and well know. The lack of a steroid rule was also longstanding and well known.

The very long espn online/magazine article from last year stated that they were against the rules and went into detail (now forgotten, sorry) about how they were banned going back to something like 1993.

But isn't it McGwire and Sosa's fault for taking steroids first and getting Bonds jealous which is why Bonds started taking them? :D Well then it is MLB's fault for not doing serious testing with serious penalties from the mid-90's on. They knew guys were taking them. But they needed the big homerun seasons to re-energize baseball after the strike season. Edited by Wilson A2000

Wilson, good post. I like your point about suing Anderson. What exactly has Baker's stance been on Bonds' suspected steroid use? I don't see how he can be made to look bad as things unfold. From what I've read, it was a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy from the ownership down through the management. Same with LaRussa.

The Giants did a background check on Anderson and two of Bonds' trainers. They found out that that Anderson was involved in steroids. They didn't want to get Bonds mad. I am not sure if Dusty was notified, but I don't think Dusty is too obtuse not to realize something illegal was going on.

ESPN:

Despite seeing a big change in Bonds' physical appearance, Giants officials did not challenge their star for fear of upsetting him. "The Giants, from owner Peter Magowan to manager Dusty Baker, had no interest in learning whether Bonds was using steroids, either," the excerpt contends. "Although it was illegal to use the drugs without a prescription, baseball had never banned steroids. Besides, by pursuing the issue, the Giants ran the risk of poisoning their relationship with their touchy superstar -- or, worse, of precipitating a drug scandal the year before the opening of their new ballpark, where Bonds was supposed to be the main gate attraction."

According to the excerpt, Anderson told an acquaintance who was wearing a wire in 2003 that: "The whole thing is, everything I've been doing, it's all undetectable. The stuff I have, we created it. You can't buy it anywhere else; you can't get it anywhere else. You can take [it] the day of [a drug test], pee, and it comes up clear.

I wonder if that wire testimony was part of the Grand Jury testimony. Who was wearing a wire? Did the Feds do this before the BALCO bust?

He wasn't jealous of Sammy. He was just jealous of the "white boy."

ESPN's Gene Wojciechowski writes a very interesting diatribe against Bonds here.

Bonds is finished. He might play again, but there is only a chalk outline left around his integrity and home run totals. And the only way he gets into Cooperstown is if he spends the $14.50 for a Hall of Fame admission ticket.

Winstrol. Deca-Durabolin. Insulin. Testosterone decanoate. Human growth hormones. Norbolethone. Trenbolone. Clomid. These are the substances and steroids Bonds is alleged to have injected or ingested. They are the medicine cabinet of a cheater

argh not "skull growth" again

I've never come across a machine at the gym that can make the skull grow, maybe you have. It's proven that a side effect of HGH is the protuding forehead and enlarged cranium.

Dr. Mitchell Harman, a growth hormone researcher, says that use of human growth hormone in large doses is "clearly toxic," and that high HGH doses can cause the development of acromegaly, a condition in which the hands, feet and forehead become enlarged, bones grow abnormally, and arthritis and heart problems develop.

Awesome pictures. Thank you for that. I was just wondering if those are two different people? It looks like it. They look similar but they are different.
