I'd be surprised if it's not true. Sounds like they have some pretty credible sources:

The authors compiled the information over a two-year investigation that included, but was not limited to, court documents, affidavits filed by BALCO investigators, confidential memoranda of federal agents (including statements made to them by athletes and trainers), grand jury testimony, audiotapes and interviews with more than 200 sources. Some of the information previously was reported by the authors in the Chronicle. Some of the information is new. For instance, in an extensive note on sourcing, the authors said memos detailing statements by BALCO owner Victor Conte, vice president James Valente and Anderson to IRS special agent Jeff Novitzky were sealed when they first consulted them, but have been unsealed since.

The authors describe how Bonds turned to steroids after the 1998 season because he was jealous of McGwire. Bonds hit 37 home runs in '98 -- a nice total and the fourth most of his career at that point -- but he was ignored by fans and the media who were captivated by McGwire's 70 home runs and his duel for the record with Sammy Sosa, who hit 66 that year.

I wouldn't be surprised about this one bit either. That sounds like Bonds.

Wow Bonds is an idiot with his money he was able to buy the best drugs in the world and use a plan by a top rate trainer but choose not to follow and just keep injecting.

If that's true, there's no way Bonds is gonna make it to 50 years old, based on how the pro wrestlers are dropping like flies.

Not only did the growth hormone keep him fresh, but after complaining in 1999 about difficulty tracking pitches, he noticed it improved his eyesight as well.

This SI article is full of great quotes. Bonds is done. There is no way he is digging himself out of this hole.

I don't know, he was a late starter, and lots of those wrestlers were using for several years. Plus, many were into other crazy drugs at the same time. Look at the Hulkster, he probably used a lot more than Bonds for a lot longer time and is far from dead. Hell, Arnold supposedly used for 10-15 years, and that was back in the day of much less sophisticated drugs.

to put it bluntly, I hate Bonds with a passion. I hope this has the same effect as a pipe to the knee would have. I want him out of the game right now. No way does he deserve to break Aaron or Ruth.

I couldn't have said it any better.

Agreed.

I hate Bonds as much as anyone else. I consider him as much of a cheater as anyone on Shoeless Joe's team. He's tarnished the record books with his cheating. However, it doesn't sound like this book provides any new facts, just more details. He's gotten a free pass on this so far, why wouldn't he continue to get one now?

Oh, how I hope I'm wrong. He should be banished from the sport if you ask me.

A lot of the information on Bonds was more speculation than fact. Hopefully this book will make it more factual.
