Not sure the proper forum for this, but I decided to see if they had pitched yet in ST so I decided I would share.

3/3/06 - Pinto

1.0IP, H, ER, 3BB, 2K

nice bit of escape work by Pinto having 4 baserunners but only 1 run

3/4/06 - Nolasco

2.0IP, H, 2K

Mitre hasn't pitched in a game yet that I can tell.

Mitre is scheduled to pitch tomorrow against Mark Mulder and the Cardinals.

Up next: The home-and-home series continues Sunday as the Marlins and Cardinals hook up again at 1:05 p.m. ET. This time, the Cards will be the home club. Florida will start Sergio Mitre, while St. Louis left-hander Mark Mulder makes his first Grapefruit League start of 2006.

is it just me or does it look like he threw the pitch with his right arm in the first picture?

That's really strange. You can see his right hand, but I don't think the picture is backwards because the logo on his hat is facing the right way. In fact, after comparing it to the other pics of him, I think they mislabeled that as Pinto.

Yeah, that's not Pinto.

Is it just me or did Renyel gain a little weight?

Pinto was optioned to the Marlins minor league camp today.

Seven pitchers were optioned to the Minor Leagues on Wednesday, including Anibal Sanchez and Renyel Pinto.

The Marlins optioned left-hander Adam Bostick and right-handers Sanchez and Scott Tyler to Double-A Carolina. Pinto, a left-hander projected to start, was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. Optioned to Class A Jupiter were right-handers Jesus Delgado, Harvey Garcia and Jose Garcia.

"They did everything we asked them to," Girardi said. "These guys need innings. You see their faces when you tell them -- this is not the part of the job you enjoy."

I don't know about Pierre, but right about now I am wishing Mitre was still a Cub. I never thought he got a fair chance in Chicago. I don't think he is a world beater, but the Cubs could use another #3 or #4 with the health (or lack there of) the pitching staff.

Yeah, I understand why the Cubs made the deal, however, more and more I'm thinking we're going to regret it.

Ahh, makes me think of Corey...

Makes me think of Angle Pagen as the Cubs starting CFer.

Let's not get carried away here. Pinto has already been demoted to the Marlins minor league camp, he has the same problems as always--lack of control. Mitre is a classic 4A pitcher, we all know that. He had enough chances here for us to see that he will never be a world-beater. He can be a serviceable spot starter, but he's no big loss.

Nolasco I will grant you could be a mistake, I've been a fan of his for quite awhile and that's the only thing I was disappointed with surrounding the Pierre trade. I would have been much happier if Koronka was the third pitcher, but Hendry boxed himself into a corner by not bringing in Furcal, and the cost of his mistake was losing Nolasco.

Agreed. I don't think Pinto will ever put it together control wise. Mitre, I don't/won't miss. He could have helped out, but he was trade bait. Nolasco is the one I will regret. The fact that he was probably the 3rd pitcher to go. Is young, experienced, uninjured, and with upside sucks.

irrelevant. he's a LEGITIMATE leadoff hitter.

He must be one of the ones that spring training doesn't count for.

As Dempster said last year, Spring Training statistics don't show up on baseball cards. :D

Ricky Nolasco is one of the leaders for one of the 3 remaining spots in the Marlins bullpen; his main comeptition is: Randy Messenger, Carlos Martinez, Chris Resop and Josh Johnson. I don't know how Wellemeyer will fit into the picture.

Sergio Mitre will more than likely follow Dontrelle Willis in the Marlins starting rotation (they were once teammates with the Boise Hawsks), although Joe Girardi hasn't set the rotation yet.

I wasn't big on overpaying for Furcal initially, but after seeing what Pierre cost us for our "bonafide leadoff hitter," i'd have rather the Trib. came out da pocket than costing us talent (it was only 3 years and 3M/year above what they were willing to go). You can't get talent back by spending money. The FA market is noticably barren of late and will continue to be so as organizations sign studs to extensions rather than letting good players see free agency.
