I don't like that it's his right knee, but if it looks like it just pushes him back to about where Wade Miller is. If all goes well, it sounds like he'll probably just miss about three starts.

Its Miller time.

I'll drink to that.

No seriously, I will. I'm glad this news came out on a Friday instead of some other day of the week, because I think I'm going to get trashed tonight. I'm not doing anything tomorrow.

Has there ever been a bigger waste of talent? I don't think so.

Thank God for the signing of Wade Miller, once he's ready, I'd give him the job regardless of how Wood is. He's long worn out his welcome, ship him off for a bag of baseballs.

Dumbbest.

Post.

Ever.

This is frustrating, and symptomatic of the Cubs incompetent handling of medical situations.

What did they do in this particular situation that is incompetent?

I'm as bummed as anyone else, but let's not misplace blame. Better yet, let's not go looking for a scapegoat at the first problem of the spring. It's going to be a long year.

I still say we should go all out for D-Train in July, if thats the way the Fish decide to go. I can't see Woody coming back next year unless he has an All-Star year, which I doubt. I wish for it, but doubt it. Would love to have Miggy too. I know, I know......Pipe dream

I still wonder if Wood's contract is insured...

I don't see how it could be, but even if it is, it's not like the Cubs would file an insurance claim and waive him...

Funny how D-Train becomes a pipe dream just a few years after we already had him in our stable.

What happened to the guys we traded for him again? Another year and I might not be able to even recall their names...

Ironic, huh?

I think D-Train is possible, D-Train AND Miggy is a pipe dream.

Why are cubs fans so up in arms about this? Kerry's been an average and injury prone pitcher for awhile now. I think its time to stop with the sack cloth and ashes every time he has an boo boo. Edited by Sheets4theHOF

Let's all take a leap of faith that the print reports the last few days regarding Dontrelle Willis becoming available at some point in the next year are true.

With that in mind, what would it take to get him? With Wood's current situation it is even more important that we add quality starting pitching.

The great part about dealing with the Marlins at this point is they won't be looking for major league talent in return so Prior, and Z are safe. Would they take Pie + Guzman + Welly for Dontrelle? Would we do that?

If the Marlins are seriously going to trade Dontrelle at the break or after this season, why wouldn't they just move him now for the right deal? It's not like they have a chance in hell of making a run with him this season. It's also not like he is going to bring in fans because they will suck so bad.

Ironic, coming from a guy with that user name.

Because the Cubs can't let go of Wood. He's kid K. He was supposed to be the next Clemens. It's almost like the Packers & Favre (not in terms of career success. of course).

Everyone always dreams of a messiah coming to save the day. Very few give any thought to what should be done when he lets everyone down.

I'd be much more worried if it was the plant knee.

Injury prone, yeah. Average, no. There's a difference between being bad, and just being injury prone. Kerry is injury prone, but not near "bad".

BTW, how's Ben Sheets' latest rehab going?

I assume D would be very expensive. And besides, Wood's coming back! He's always coming back. Gotta keep that seat in the rotation warm for the saviour.

I'm sick of being lied to by this franchise at this point. I don't believe for one second Hendry & Baker didn't know Wood's knee was a problem. They keep selling this idea of Prior & Wood dualing for the Cy Young. It's not going to happen. And I think it's time we accept it, even if they can't.

I just wonder if Hendry and Co. are thinking like we are and throw their hat in the ring for D-Train. It could right a wrong they made.

Sorry, but I think it's kind of amusing that some people think they are medical experts here. Not so much in this thread, but moreso in the torn labrum thread.

Anyway, from the information gathered from the articles, this really doesn't sound like that big of a deal. I kind of figured when people heard the word "surgery" and "Kerry Wood" people would be freaking out. But really, this is an outpatient procedure, takes less than 30 minutes, and is more protective than anything else. A knee scope, while a minor surgery, is being used quite often as a diagnostic test. In Wood's case, it seems that he has minor fraying of the meniscus that is causing him some discomfort. To debride the area is a good idea, because it not only will alleviate any discomfort but also protect the tear from worsening.

I think people need to keep in mind that some of this medical jargon sounds worse than it is. For example, a tear sounds bad. But not all tears are the same. That's why we stage them and the treatment can be very different. Keep in mind that a simple muscle strain or tendinous sprain, which we all probably have had at one point, are all tears. But they are not the same as say a severe sprain which can be a complete tear of a ligament that usually requires surgery - especially in an athlete.

Bottom line - this doesn't sound to be much of a set back.

I honestly couldn't disagree with you more on what you typed. Both myself and recently, my girlfriend's brother both had this procedure. Yea, its outpatient, but isn't EVERYTHING outpatient anymore sadly? This injury does not take anywhere close to the amount of time you said it does to heal. Added on top of this, Kerry will obviously not be throwing a baseball during this time, leading to even more necessary strengthening of his arm, etc. etc.

Dontrelle won't make more next year than the $9 million Maddux is making this year.

I get the frustration with the Wood situation. I think all Cubs fans are frustrated. If Baker and Hendry knew about Kerry's knee why didn't he have this surgery earlier? Do they want the Cubs to lose? Is it a cover-up for a bigger issue? What would they possibly have to gain by Wood missing more time as we approach the season?

How has the organization sold the idea of Prior and Wood fighting for the Cy Young? I know the national media has sold this notion, but how has the Cubs organization done that? The only reason the mational media has that perception is the 2003 playoffs, and they still don't realize how good Z is.

Im not saying Kerry Wood is a bad pitcher i'm saying at this point he's average. Maybe that's due to all the injuries, but the last two years have been pretty average.

Even in his best years ('01 and '03) he was only 8th and 9th in the league in era. Every year he's been in the top ten in K's he's also been in the top ten in BB. I don't think after all his injuries he can ever return to that 03 form, therefore I think of his as an average pitcher.

Ben Sheet's rehab is going well, no set backs yet. He's on pace to start opening day for the 5th straight year. First ST game for him tomorrow.
