If Lee gives you guys the 'ole hometown discount, its only a matter of time before you go all Cardinals fan and expect every FA to magically do the same. Then you start to feel like you deserve the preferential treatment. Then when people don't sign it isn't because your ownership didn't want to spend the money, it's because the guy who didn't sign is greedy and a horribler person.

It's good times.

I'm sorry guys, but Adrian Beltre should be the foremost example on Hendry's mind come DLee contract talks. One great year doesn't mean he's suddenly elevated his game to an all new level and is there to stay. I love Lee, but he's not worth $15M if he reverts to his average year form.

It's like Hendry wants me to be mad at him. One stupid move after another. I can't wait to see how many years Lee gets.

On the other hand, Lee was much better than Beltre for the prior seasons.

On the third hand, Beltre was 5 years younger when he hit free agency.

I would like to see us give contracts to Aramis, Zambrano, Prior, another couple of pitchers since we might lose Wood and will hopefully lose Maddux. Don't get me wrong, I want to have Lee around. I just don't want to give him a ridiculous contract, especially before he shows that he can put up numbers like he did last year again.

Oh yeah, I would like to see us give a contract to Carlos Lee if he isn't asking for 13+ mil a year. It would be nice to have a good outfielder for once.

i am all for getting carlos lee, whenever he plays at wrigley he rakes; but what happens to matt murton if he has a very good season in 06? you are still stuck with jock in right... and pie is also on the horizon. imagine a 3-5 of lee lee and ramirez =P~

we already feel like we are entitled to all FAs at a cheaper price.

A)Who doesn't want to play for the almighty Cobs??

B) Player X has awesome numbers at wrigley of course he'll sign for less to be here.

C) Everybody wants to play for Dusty!!!! (that's less us, and more the myth that surrounds Dusty.)

One of Murton (if he does well) or Carlos can play right. I don't care about Jones. Trade him away for all I care. Pie can play center and ship away Pierre if he plays up to expectations. Or you can keep Lee in left, put Pie in right, and trade away Murton and Jones.

I'll ask again: what is it about Carlos Lee that makes people want him so bad? His line of .265/.324/.487 wasn't that great last year. It was downright Burnitz-like. He's also a butcher in the field.

I certainly wouldn't bump ARam out of the cleanup spot for him.

I think it's because everytime we watch him play the Cubs he hits 800 foot home runs every other at bat.

It has to be the 114 RBIs. I don't know what else it could be.

Did he tail off pretty badly at the end of last year? Cause I didn't watch the last month or so of baseball cause I was so pissed at the Cubs. I remember him doing a lot better than that. I thought he was near the league lead in homers for some of the season.

Edit: ahh yes

Pre All-star break: .268/.336/.528/.864

Post All-star break: .262/.309/.437/.746

I'm sure the same thing happened to a bunch of people on this board.

sure we could very easily trade murton, but who would want jones for that price? if they can't trade him he'll play. they aren't going to bench that salary regardless if there are better options or not.

I'm sure someone would take him. Granted, I wouldn't expect much in return other than a couple of prospects and eating some of the money but that is fine.

Lee says he'd like to stay with the Cubs

"If it's a deal I feel is fair for me, I would sign it. It's still a business. I always look at it as if there is a deal that makes me happy now, why not sign it? I don't think $2-3 million a year more is going to change my life," he said.

That's a breath of fresh air.

Don't forget that Johnny Damon said last year that there was no chance he would sign with the Yankees in 2006 and where did he end up signing? That's right. New York. Just because Lee says $2-3 million more won't change his life doesn't me he wouldn't take it. I wouldn't spend too much energy worrying about this now. Let's wait to see how the season plays out first.

My point is that players often say they won't do something and then they go out and do it. I'm just saying that we shouldn't worry too much about Lee's contract since he's signed for 2006.

You value Aramis more than DLee?

I would he's younger, and it is much easier to find a 1st baseman that puts up numbers closer to Lee then it is to find a 3rd baseman that can put up Ramirez type numbers.

You should value Aramis over Lee. His career numbers in less time are much better, and he's 3 years younger.

If Lee is asking for 15+ mil a year I do.
