Why all the Richard Hidalgo love? His last two years have been pretty bad overall and his stats against lefties (which is what I assume everyone wants him for) have gotten worse in each of the last two years.

How are Hidalgo's numbers the past two years when compared with Gonzalez'?

Don't know. I don't advocate signing either one. Why do you want the Cubs to sign Hidalgo?

Well, I'm not really amped up about it one way or another. But if I have to choose between them, I'd choose Hidalgo because he's closer to his previous levels of performance, he provides great defense and doesn't have the lousy rep in the clubhouse (as opposed to Juan "If I ain't startin', I ain't goin' Gonzalez).

Well, a quick check shows that RH's 2005 numbers versus lefties were worse than JJ's. JG in 2004 was very good against lefties.

I agree with your assessment of JG, though. That should be enough to keep the Cubs away. But then again, Dusty can always sprinkle some Holy Water on him and cure him of his ills......

Either option is better than Jones facing LH'ers, which Jones has never shown ability to hit LH'ers.

I wouldn't mind Hairston, but he doesn't have the power needed for a corner OF spot and he'll likely be at 2B against LH'ers while Walker gets the day off.

I hate to say it, but Grissom really wouldn't be a horrible choice to platoon with Jones.

I said that months ago.

I probably hadn't found the site here yet. I'm pretty new.

take me off ignore you bastard! (can I use that word? maybe the mods will miss it). The key is Grissom subbing for Jones and not for Murton.

What? Did someone say something?

I actually think it'll be okay.

Because there's little left to choose from and our outfield is terrible?

If the Cubs can grab Craig Wilson from the Pirates for a package of Welly and Brownlie then I'm all for it but I could see the Pirates wanting Williams.

I've always felt that Juan G has had the benefit of steroids and would be close to worthless if he made the team.

If he convinced Jacque to use them, Juan could perform a great service to the team.

...by either:

A) enhancing Jaque's performance or

B) getting him baninated from the team

Grissom's 3 year splits (2003-2005):

vs. Left: .322/.359/.567/.926 (335 AB)

vs. Right: .267/.299/.396/.695 (951 AB)

Grissom from a few years ago might not be a bad platoon player, but he is getting older and recovering from some injuries.

Indeed he would! When the last time Juan even played defense?

My thinking exactly.

I think Juan Gon would be a solid addition. Like others have said hes a little risk high reward kind of guy. I have a question though whats up with the insane amount of veteren leadership on the bench. Ha ha i just find it weird that if we get Juan Gon we'd have at least 3 guys that are over the age of 35 on the bench. Im also wondering if he ever took riods cause since the questioning he hasn't done [expletive]. He has been injured though so that might be the reason as well.

And Hidalgo makes it better?

Why not wait and see who will be available near the end of spring training?

because these guys will cost us nothing right now , we have spring training to figure out if they can help the club or not.

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. How does it cause harm to bring him in? If someone else comes free during ST, you just dump him and bring the other guy in----?
